I feel like I'm going to enjoy this as much as I enjoy the Uncharted games

meaning, fun to play once then never again

Yup this is a game I will play day 1 and then trade in.

It helps that I preordered it with the visa checkout deal on Best Buy like 2 years ago for a final cost of like $30

Are there any reviews that aren't crazy positive about it? I can't really trust most game reviews for Sony games after Uncharted 4 got a 93 on metacritic.

I like metro gamings reviews. They usually are pretty fair.

https://www.google.com/amp/metro.co.uk/2018/04/12/god-of-war-review-the-redemption-of-kratos-7460112/amp/

Summary:

-Good, organic character development but not sure the plot completely makes sense.

- Shallow combat, basically a button masher at normal difficulty. RPG elements seem added partly to hide the shallow nature of the gameplay.
- above average sidequests

They end up 9/10 which seems like a fair score, but sounds like for me personally it will probably be more like an 8.

Basically, it’s the last of us with god of war coat of paint.

(I think last of us has shallow combat and shallow stealth, compared to top tier stealth shooters)

Why would it... it's Norse mythology.  :betty

I've read some 8/10 reviews which mentioned that the kid is, in fact, shit.

This feels like the kind of game that a guy I know will say is the best game he’s played in 10 years and I’ll finally break down and play it and think it’s just okay.

I’ll prob use it as an excuse to upgrade my PS4 to a Pro though.

Lol nvm I can’t tell a difference in frame rate much less resolution screenshots.

Everytime I think it’s time to bite the bullet and upgrade I go research comparisons and can barely see any difference.

Seems utterly pointless to me. Even the BoneX, which is even a wider jump compared to old Bone, doesn't seem worth it in the slightest.

It's not like spoilers change the quality of the game. If the only thing it's got going for it are surprising moments it's probably not a good game in the first place.

Seems there are walkthroughs of the game on youtube now. Anyone that actually wants to see what game they're getting, check those out.

The reviews for this game are some of the worst I've seen in ages. "We can't talk about the game, but trust us, it's awesome. 10/10" These folks are the last people I'd trust on anything.

I used to order new Capcom releases from their Digital River store and would get them days ahead of the release date.  It was pretty awesome until the opposite happened and they sent me a game like a week late.  :-\

It's nothing like the old God of War. What videos have you been watching? The three hours of the game I watched was pretty much Logan: The Video Game.

The Dark Souls stuff gets thrown around cause the combat is bound to the shoulder buttons and there's light exploration stuff like in Dark Souls/Bloodborne. (Think there are missable extra bosses and stuff.)

Played through an hour or two last night.

I'm playing on performance mode because fuck 30 fps for a hack and slash

So far the game is good, but not scratching the itch that I typically want from God of War games.  I think I need to come to terms with that quick though -- this is a different game altogether.

The combat takes a while to get accustomed to, and I really don't like combat mapped to the shoulder buttons.  It doesn't help that I was just replaying Last of Us where the shoulders were relegated to stealth and running, so maybe thats my bad.

The axe is tits though.
