Gaming is such a waste of fucking time. All those years i wasted on that stupid goddamn franchise. I could have been sharpening skills, perfecting my scales on the guitar, doing a million other things in those few good years i was utterly obsessed.....fucking STUPID.

Worse, the gaming community is nothing but the worst of the worst of toxicity. It can't get much worse than the gaming side of the internet.

I barely gamed in my twenties though;  definitely can see why someone who did would have regrats.

I definitely over did it for a solid 2 or so years there. It was comforting hopping online with a community i knew would be there. It was addicting to constantly have that competition outside of actual sports which i was past my time to engage in. It fills that gap that was missing, that competitiveness.

It's dangerous. I can't imagine what the younger generation has to go through. I can't even stand when my gf hops on Candy Crush every night before bed. I've definitely become adverse to the whole thing.

I got sucked in a few years by a dumb game, but only because i wanted to be better than other people at said game. I got addicted to being 'the best'.

I've identified a constant variable that is more specific than the broad categories of "video games" or "gaming" or the "gaming community" even.

Mastering any instrument is a serious accomplishment that takes years of practice and isn't something to sneeze at. I don't hate video games but if I could take all the time I spent in my childhood on Ocarina of Time (every inch of which I have memorized) and retroactively spend it on a violin or piano instead, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I dunno, I'm fairly introverted as a person and after a long week working, social obligations, hanging out with gf and friends (luckily they also like gaming), sometimes there's nothing better than spending an afternoon or weeknight just playing games for hours straight. I don't understand the whole "you have to be constantly productive" or "constantly do things to better yourself". Sometimes you need that mental break. And it helps me to appreciate the games I do play a bit more, I think.
