I am not a student of history and haven't been alive long enough to know about this so I have no idea what you're talking about. I attempted to answer the question with very limited knowledge and later clarified I know little about the topic outside the culture in which I participate. As a parent of boys I absolutely do want to hear from people who felt they came close to heading down this path. I look for the signs of all kinds of negative internet influences on my kids. And I never myself fell into the hating women thing, I certainly shared other characteristics as a teen like the self loathing. I didn't have the internet to feed me shitty ideas.

This is not sympathy for assholes who have given themselves over to this shit, it's looking out for people who might.

I don't like the GotG movies and wasn't aware of all this thing about this twits, but after reading this thread I have a feeling like after seing Mystic River: that a victim got lynched. It also reminds me Jagten (The Hunt) in the way in which group behaviour are oftenly prone to prejudgement.

I've been thinking of the "Era's Woman Problem" thread a lot while reading some of these replies.

It's depressing to compare the two threads and the direction they headed in.

Stiffle conversations. Jesus Christ. Hey, let's play a fun game. How many women have stopped posting on this site? Have you noticed this? That the number of women on this site has dramatically gone down? Want to know why? Because they feel unsafe here. Because they feel frustrated at being treated as second class citizens. Because they feel attacked and watch as any attempt to comment on this is filled with these same posters just mocking and attacking them further. And so, one by one, they leave. They stop commenting. They stop visiting the site. They stop coming here because they feel like the don't belong. Where is the sympathy for them? Where is the sympathy for all the women who are constantly harassed even on this site where they feel uncomfortable posting in the "most liberal gaming site on the internet"? And yet, and yet, here we are, demanding that the poor poor white man deserves all of our sympathy. NeoGAF was the most popular video game forum. I suspect that era is over now. One of my concerns, and many, many other members' concerns with that forum is how the owner financially managed it. It became user hostile with viglinks, intrusive ads, and hijack your browser mobile ads. More importantly, it was a forum built up of community generated content for free, moderated by unpaid volunteers, all set up for the profit of one single person. This set up disgusted me and I know it disgusted many others.

During the mass exodus, I knew this is our chance as a community to fix the above issue. If the community made the content, the community should be the ones determining how to spend the site revenue. I offered to fund the entirety of Resetera to accomplish this goal, but the current forum owner ignored me. There's a lot going on, I guess.

I understand this forum is new and there's a lot to work out. Perfect. Since we're not on a determined path, I propose all revenue generated by this forum be used to pay for the forum itself, to generate ways to create better content for the community, and send all other revenue toward another, gaming related causes. For example, game development for the underprivileged, the underrepresented minorities and women, Child's Play kind of endeavors, etc.

Granted, yes, the site is new, there's no money, no one's determined anything with money, etc., etc. However, it's important to have this discussion now. We can work toward being a better, more inclusive community. Do you have any thoughts on how the site should spend its generated revenue, if it ever gets to that point?

I wish they'd allow posters to be monthly contributors. Maybe some type of vanity flair for their avatars as thanks.

Could we just start a subscription model instead of ads? I'm happy to pay for this. Love this site already.

I'm all in for (non-intrusive) ads that block the site if ABP is enabled, and a gold-membership subscription plan to support the site.

I'd rather some donation type thing to keep the site running and cover costs than ads. I wonder if that's an option in the future?

I'm also willing to donate (patreon?) to the message board to keep it going.

I didn't like that mods on GAF weren't paid.

The people who maintain this community (both on the technical side and the moderators) should be given some sort of compensation, imo. The fact that the mods on such an immense site like GAF were being asked to donate their time is absolutely insulting given how much the site was pulling in from ad revenue, and how much that community was shaped by it's moderation.
