Here are some examples of good reasons why a member may ask for a username request.

Example 1: A member accidentally registers with their real name.
Example 2: A member needs their username changed due to safety/privacy concerns.
Example 3: A member accidentally misspelled their username.

i feel pretty strongly that keeping OT one big mass of crap is a great thing and i'm gonna use this split to summarize why.

Some sort of affirmative action, that is gender-based instead of race-based. So basically some type of quota system that tilts the balance of posts towards more towards women. It worked in American universities, i don't see why it couldn't work on a forum.

I heard Russia has some farms you can contract at reasonable prices, maybe they could provide more women users on demand ?

How do mods know when some is arguing in " bad faith"

That is a good question. Here's what the FAQ says, to give examples:

Do not argue in bad faith: Honest dissent and debate is generally welcome. However, we do not welcome disingenuous arguments, deliberately ignoring or refusing to acknowledge counterarguments, or arguing for no reason than to upset other members.
Those are good signs that someone is not there to debate in bad faith. We can give the benefit of doubt to users up to a point, but when it becomes clear that they are just being malicious and disruptive, we take action as necessary.

No moderation decision is made in isolation. Moderation always involves a conversation between multiple moderators, and debate is encouraged. The team acts collectively. There is no individual moderator who banned you; the team banned you.

We recently had a thread about an animator arrested for possession of child porn, but discussion shifted toward insinuating that there was a connection between him having worked on My Little Pony and his pedophilia. There were tons of drive-by posts with "mild shock" and how they weren't that shocked, and when I pointed out how the framing of the topic would lead to this, I was accused of being a pedophile myself. Once the title of the thread changed, activity dropped like a rock and almost completely shifted to discussing the actual arrest, which goes to show how many people were coming in just to rag on fans of My Little Pony, not to discuss the actual topic. Despite this, there are zero warnings in the thread.

There was another "brony bashing" thread a couple months into the start of this site where similarly, very few people even got warnings, and the person who said bronies should kill themselves only got like a week ban.

Moderation needs to treat posts like these more seriously.

Since some people want more bans and some people want less bans, what if you just make less bans but make them harsher? Utilize warnings more and if someone keeps ignoring them just ban.
