... but the way that community reacts is just a fascinating example of absurdity.
The 10 thing is ridiculous; the bar for "objectification" is way too low for many people on resetera it really takes the impact out of the word.
And when I first read the thread I thought "going to HR seems a little much" but then I thought.. "Well I don't know what it's like for that woman." Might not have been the first time at even a brand new job it happened, or even the first time that day.. and I don't know how it makes her feel to be pointed and stared at other than I can assume it makes her feel uncomfortable.
So show some empathy friendo.
I had a coworker go to HR about a dude that was being borderline creepy and they kind of lit her up for going to HR before telling him to stop doing what he was doing.
It was definitely kind of a borderline situation, where what he was doing was weird, but his English is really bad and he’s super awkward, so I wasn’t sure that he was intentionally making her uncomfortable.
But they definitely had a preference that you try to handle it for yourself first or with your manager before escalating to HR. It sort of surprised me, even though it seemed to be common-sense.
But their stance seemed to be “look you didn’t tell him to stop and he didn’t assault you, so well give him a warning and call it good”.
