REers are essentially the feminist equivalent to Christians who hold "God Hates Fãgs" signs. 
REeers, tumblr, gaming "journalism", clickbait "journalism" and the last 3+ of years also a very large part twitter and many reddit subs too. The cancer is no longer contained, it's mainstream now.
I do have to agree that some of the extremist views have garnered enough mainstream acceptance among other left-wingers to be alarming. The increasing incidents of harassment and violence is evidence of that.
Eh, you have enough extremist rightists saying enough extremist shit for a long enough time and violent pushback from a fringe is inevitable. It's not even that widespread at this point, compared to other eras of American history at least.
All this talk on ERA of people punching nazis? The vast majority of them wouldn't even show up to a protest much less punch anyone.
Sure, people on Era wouldn't actually go punch Nazis, but the idea has become widespread enough that some leftists actually are.
And yeah, extremist right wingers have definitely provoked a lot of the animosity directed at them. But I will never stop believing in the hard line between speech and actual violence. The whole reason nasty speech is bad is because of the idea it might represent actual violence in the future. A toothless threat is benign; a threat that has some chance of becoming reality is suddenly very bad. That shows that actual violence is the primary problem, not the words themselves.
So no, I don't really buy the "We have to be violent with them to prevent violence from breaking out" line that many hold. That's exactly the thought process that causes violence to actually break out and become real, not just words.
