For real though: what’s with people labeling all brown characters as black? Latino representation is much worse in gaming, yet there are lots of examples of RE calling clearly Latin characters “black”. They did the same thing with the tan Inklings
It’s about perception.
On gaf like ten years ago I had an argument with Aeana and Ethelred about black rpg characters. They persisted that Kiros from FF8 is black. I told them that as a black person I don’t see him as black just dark skinned. He has wavy, brown hair. To me he could he looked more Mexican or something but I don’t read him as black. They thought I was crazy. I don’t blame them at all for thinking he’s black in hindsight because he’s completely racially ambiguous.
It’s all about your own subjective perception.
I also had another argument about this on gaf regarding Street Fighter. People insisted that Dudley is black. But he’s just dark skinned to me. A black man? With that mustache and that hair? But they see a black man. To me Kiros looks more black than Dudley.
So again, it depends on what you personally see. I don’t blame that guy at all for thinking he’s black. It looks like he has dreads and we know that in games dreads = black.
