America makes me want to kill myself.

At least half the people in this country hate me. They hate me for my gender or my sexual orientation or other things I don't want to talk about. They hate others for their race or ethnicity. They don't just hate us, they view us as subhuman. We can be beaten, raped, killed, and they don't care. They say we deserve it.

This isn't politicians that we're talking about. This is ordinary Americans, the people in line with me at the grocery store, the neighbors next door, coworkers. Family, too. They put on a friendly face, but they hate us. They are devoid of any empathy for us. We are already dead to them.

People look at someone like Brett Kavanaugh and they see a man who is a victim. Nobody cares about actual victims. Men look at Kavanaugh and they're terrified their old demons will resurface, that we will remember the things they did to us and demand justice. They will use everything they can to prevent that from happening, and America will stand by and let them.

I go downstairs and I see my dad and brothers all vigorously agreeing with Kavanaugh. Sometimes my dad makes jokes about wanting to run for an office. I could see him doing it, he's smart, successful, and very political. I know what would happen if I tried to tell people how he treated me, or my mom. Nobody would believe me, just like they wouldn't believe my friend if they spoke up. It wouldn't matter to anyone. America doesn't care. It didn't happen, and if it did, who cares? It was in the past.

I imagine most of Kavanaugh's defenders see him as a victim because they think there's reasonable doubt as to whether he committed sexual assault, but he's already being perceived as a rapist by a sizable portion of the country.

I think your perception of human beings is pessimistic and assumes the worst of people (e.g. that they're also hiding sexual assault skeletons in their closet) without substantial proof.  In my perception, people are rarely actively malicious, but are often indifferent or apathetic to anything far outside of their social circle.  This is probably a human psychological defense mechanism.  If we were equally emotionally involved in the life of every single person in the world, we would be miserable every single day of our lives.

Seemed like Kavanaugh was lying about a lot of things in his yearbook today, which makes it more likely he's also lying about assault.  But there's still no smoking gun to my knowledge.  Witness testimony supports his innocence unanimously, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm left leaning (why else would I spend time here unless I was a sadomasochist).  I support the MeToo movement as it has largely not resulted in the presumed guilt for men that its detractors have claimed would happen, and has outed a ton of shitty people.  I'm just not seeing clear evidence of guilt here.  In fact I imagine a lot of Democrats are silently admitting the same to themselves, but are acting otherwise because of the obvious wide-ranging, decades-spanning ramifications of Kavanaugh sitting on the Supreme Court.  This doesn't sit right with me, but I understand where they're coming from.

Sorry I upset you, but it's not okay to pass judgement on someone when there's still reasonable doubt, no matter how much it goes against statistical likelihoods or current social trends.  I think it's unlikely that Kavanaugh didn't commit sexual assault, but that doesn't make it okay for me to conclude that he's a rapist.

Also I didn't say anything about his life being ruined.  And I explicitly said this is about his Supreme Court nomination.



You might be right; I was just giving my perception of society.  But how would either of us know really?  I don't know the personal views of 99% of people I come across, and I bet you don't either.  So why assume that almost everyone hates you and thinks you deserve to be abused?

In my initial post, I was pointing out that much of the reasoning for OP's suicidal thoughts was faulty (imo).  Is giving a more positive perspective "highly insensitive"?   I dunno, maybe it is just better to say "I know how you feel but I feel that way too so keep your head up m'kay?  Even though you're totally right about America being evil and all.".  But I would think you would want an actual reason to feel better. 

And then when I saw my posts starting to drift from the topic, I apologized for the derail and said I'll leave, which I did.  And then got banned anyway.

Guys it's honestly baffling that this thread got derailed to this degree over a tiny three day ban. In retrospect this thread probably should have been locked from the start and yes that's on us. But the post that was banned seemed gratuitously violent and over the top – a pretty routine report like the hundreds we process every day. After a standard review accounting for context the length was set to three days. There hardly seems any point in lifting it now that it’s almost expired.

In general, threads asking for the worst thing you can think of do not mean that the rules are suddenly suspended and anything goes. That should be obvious but it's been a misconception in the past.

As far as we can tell nobody sent us any PM or email about this and that's really disappointing. We would've been happy to get in here sooner.
