The usual suspects on RE are really pissed that people think Ada looks hot and are at the same time too much of a chickenshit to post in the actual thread.
There's also a whole "Ada looks underage" discussion which is utterly insane

https://www.resetera.com/threads/why-women-criticise-sexualised-character-designs-ot2-i-have-no-pants-and-i-must-scream-read-op.65064/page-71

So it's a thread dedicated to the whiniest forum warriors doing the BCT thing of linking other threads and being like "look at these assholes who disagree with me!". I figured that wasn't allowed and they had to use discords to organize their thread  shitting.

I'm starting to think that ResetERA.com may be based in an alternate timeline that vibrates every so slightly divergent from our own. This would explain all the minor differences between our realities.

And I'd just like to make one thing clear right now: NO, WE WILL NOT TAKE YOUR HARRY KIM.

It's similar to if a headline said, "Trampoline convention runs out of free crutches."

Presumably a nontrivial segment of attendees to a furry convention in the American midwest are products of sex "education" directed by people who are very passionate about their imaginary friends, so this isn't exactly accurate.

Anyway, it's sure swell there's another HIV crisis percolating within a sexual minority community. The recent passing of George Bush reminds me of how well America handles those.

Quote
In recent years, members of the alt-right have, in blog posts and in YouTube videos, courted young men who share an interest in video games. (The wooers include Steve Bannon, when he was the executive chairman of Breitbart News, and the former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, who churned out posts with titles such as “Feminist Bullies Tearing the Video Game Industry Apart.”) This scheme has proved effective. Last month, a YouTube user uploaded a clip from the recent blockbuster video game Red Dead Redemption 2, a cowboy playpen set in the late-nineteenth-century American Southwest. In it, the player guides his character toward a computer-controlled suffragette who is campaigning for her right to vote, and punches her unconscious. The video, titled “Beating Up Annoying Feminist,” has been viewed more than 1.7 million times, with a chorus of support in the comments below.

This kind of trolling can easily escalate. Earlier this month, NPR broadcast a story in which a father recounted his dismay at finding a neo-Nazi pamphlet that his fifteen-year-old son had printed out after being encouraged by fellow-gamers. “I was crying,” the man said. “I felt like a failure that a child that I had raised would be remotely interested in that sort of stuff.”

The cultural problems around video games, of course, inhere not just in their young players but in their creators. There remains a woeful lack of diversity among those who design video games, and, in the industry at large, among those who decide what kinds of games are made in the first place. But the tectonic plates still shift, slowly, and, at the edges, work of intelligence and interest is produced. While 2018 was hardly a vintage year for video games, there were releases that nevertheless excited, stimulated, and challenged their audiences to think for themselves. Here are nine.

Right, it's a step up for the "New Yorker" whatever that is. Very much like if the New York Slimes replaced MAGA Haberman with Jason Schreier or Patrick Klepek as their White House and foreign policy correspondents. Or hired Austin Walker to write their editorials. People with real journalistic credibility instead of PR mouthpieces for special interests.

The worst moment in my opinion of HW's political life was using Willie Horton ad as scare tactics. If Trump plays that ad today, no one would bat an eye.
Umm no one bated an eye in 88 either, in fact the ad was a major factor that helped HW win.
I wrote a post when this mythology first started popping up in the HW specific thread but deleted it because it was just benji benji'ng, and here's The Queen herself, expert on all subjects, repeating it, it's just sad.

The "Willie Horton" ad ran for like a week, and was run by a GOP PAC in select states.

The Bush campaign ran this ad for like the whole final month of the campaign:

I'm willing to say ten times as many people saw both ads, and probably fifty times as many people saw the Horton specific ad NOT through the advertising itself but through the media's covering the "controversy" which ran both the ads multiple times in "news reports" on it, even after the Bush campaign denounced the Horton ad, to roll out this one, all while continuously mentioning Horton's specific case at other times.

Now I was going to, and had, compared it to the LBJ "Daisy" ad which ran once. One time. And never mentioned Goldwater. But the media replayed it continuously as framing to discuss the "controversy" over the ad and did explicitly tie it to Goldwater.

But I realized that's going the wrong way. We just lived through a campaign where any Trump message no matter how meaningless or dumb (like his direct insulting of the media at all his events, which he'd been doing for months before THE CONTROVERSY took off and it's been an endless attack on our most important institution, the institutional D.C. press and their special privileges) was amplified, and continues to be, as the media can't stop discussing "the controversy" it causes endlessly until it fizzles out and the next one comes along for them to repeat the process over. The Court Press doesn't seem to understand how little their tut-tutting afterwards matters compared to endlessly playing his comments, whatever they are, which draws the attention.

The "Horton controversy" (not "the Horton ad") played perfectly into this. That was the meaning of Atwater's statement about how people will think Horton is Dukakis' running mate. Not that they'd flood the airwaves with an ad from a second party group, especially not in 1988's media environment. (The Horton ad was specifically rejected by a large number of stations, they had to send them a different one for approval, then bait and switch the one full of Horton pictures to get it on some stations.) Instead it was that once the media was all in, they could have someone campaigning for Bush just mention Horton and it'd dominate a news cycle again. They no longer even needed Bush himself to bring up Horton. He could actually stand back and say "look at these liberals trying to make this about race!"

And maybe more importantly, to claim it was a "major factor" is like also bringing up Dukakis in the Tank as a major factor. Fucking get over yourselves with the media mythology short two variable explanations, that isn't how elections are decided.

H.W. Bush got 48% in NY, 46% in Massachusetts. 51% in California, Illinois and Pennsylvania. 55% in Ohio, 54% in Michigan, 56% in New Jersey, 61% in Florida. It was a different electorate. Reagan had won ALL of those states in both 1984 and 1980. Massachusetts (40%) and Florida (47%) were the only of those states that Gerald Ford got under 48% in during 1976.

Oh, while I'm at it, I might as well go full benji.

Basically every single study ever done has shown Perot voters were evenly split between the two major party candidates. That at most they leaned 55/45 Bush potentially 60/40 neither of which would have made up the difference for Bush against Clinton, and that was in part because when Perot dropped out claiming the Republicans were going to attack his daughters wedding, a number of his supporters switched over to Clinton (who held his convention immediately after Perot dropped out) and didn't return to Perot. Before then he was taking from both parties, which is why they jointly spent so much time trying to undermine him, ignore him, keep him out of the debates, etc.

benji, how do you personally feel about the credibility of the Perot wedding thing?
I think he was having second thoughts because it was right when he had to shit or get off the pot regarding all sorts of actual legal requirements, actually start spending his money, and other stuff, Stockdale wasn't intended to be the VP candidate, he was a stand-in name for states that required it early and then later they'd replace him for example. I think he was leaning towards trying to ditch out, while hurting the GOP (he endorsed Clinton when he dropped out before taking it back) and then the campaign apparatus that was setup to support him on its own essentially said, "no, fuck you, you're staying in, you're not wasting all of this."

Somewhat similar to what lots of people assumed Trump would do once the campaign got "legit" only he never stopped winning primaries and had vanquished Jeb! to be sent to Andy-kun's dungeon, etc. Trump couldn't have ever dropped out and thrown his support behind Cruz or Rubio or god forbid Kasich for example after the following that had built up simply from people liking him, his big rallies, and working on their own to build his campaign apparatus.

Perot wanted nothing to do with running in 1996 either, except the way the election laws worked because his 1992 campaign was an independent bid, the only way his Reform Party could get awarded the federal funding was if he was the candidate. (Then Perot's "success" in 1996 is what led to the $10-12 million for 2000 the party would get that Pat Buchanan eventually snagged and what had interested Trump in the Reform nomination in the first place before he realized it was a shit show and bailed out.)

Lincoln was a white supremacist. He didn't ban slavery in the United States. He didn't support a woman's federal right to vote. Nor did he allow federal funding for abortion or gender reassignment surgery. Not once did he condemn GamerGate. He appointed William Seward as Secretary of State, Seward openly gave the equivalent of over $100 million to the government of Russia. He did nothing to prevent Jim Crow. Never in his political career did he oppose Nazi's.

Man, you white people really love appropriating a history you had nothing to do with.

He was a self-hating black.

But the real question now is, who were the first THREE black Presidents?

Apparently the first is John Hanson, who was a President under the Articles of Confederation, who was a white guy, but has been confused with a black Senator named John Hanson who lived like a hundred years later. Which sounds like more cac fake mythology made up to cover up true black history.

Then Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding (duh), Calvin Coolidge and Dwight Eisenhower are the other black Presidents.

Just wild what cacs do with history.

I mean, I'm all for mocking furries but: I don't see what's so :doge about that.

People getting tested, especially MSM is a good thing.
Getting tested is great. The testing itself is positive. The joke is what the mass demand for testing indicates about the convention.

The humor is in the sexual hygiene spectrum. On the one end of the spectrum, you have, say, a faithful monogamous couple that never has to get tested for STD's. On the other end of the spectrum, you have a furry convention.

It's similar to if a headline said, "Trampoline convention runs out of free crutches."

I work as a teacher and I'm scared shitless it went so far I don't meet with pupils alone anymore do discuss stuff. So it kind of took a new turn but people who say things like "you can't do anything anymore" have probably no idea what they're talking about and just want to say stupid shit.

See, when men say "I don't meet with students alone with the door closed", what I hear is "I think women are either hysterical enough to claim anything is sexual assault, or lying crazy bitches who will make false allegations for no reason". So uh, that's groovy I guess.

Surveillance camera deals thread.

Why don't you put a camera in your office/classroom and only see students there? Let them know everything is recorded. That's what cops did. Worked great for them.

A wifi 1080p cameras is $25. You can afford $25 can't you?

You're welcome! I have just removed all stress from your life.

mate, there's nothing wrong with puritanical convictions for invented misdemeanors, you just have to set up surveillance of your every action 24/7 to prove your innocence.

Why don't you get a lawyer on retainer? Works great for corporations.
Why don't you get malpractice insurance? Works great for doctors and lawyers.
Why don't you get the right to refuse service? Works great for restaurants.
Why don't you hire a security staff? Works great for shop keepers.

You can afford all that on your fat cat Big Teaching wages, right?
