I think some of it is anger at losing what they thought would be a contemporary defining moment of racial injustice. You saw a lot of people juxtaposing sit in protest of the 50s and 60s with this confrontation. They needed this to play out as uncharitably as possible for the MAGA teens because they want a quick and easy way to show how white america is emboldened in their racism by Trump (that's why the MAGA hats are important).
