Failure to appear charges would obviously be more damaging to "marginalized" people than bail. They aren't going to accept excuses no matter how valid.

You don't know me and you don't know my politics. I believe that capitalism is an inherently evil system. I believe that workers deserve ownership of the fruits of their labor. I am also queer and I believe that representation matters. I also believe that we live in a broken world with a broken system and the only way to deal with that is to press forward with the least worst option (I've always been at least partially-- though often extremely--disappointed in my options for whom to vote, and it's sometimes complicated to parse which actually is the least worse option).

I came up through queer activism and the belief that every fight matters, even if it's a small one if it pushes forward a more progressive world.

And here on Era, there are some posters who have positioned themselves as the gatekeepers of progressivism. People who deviate from their view are instantly written off as "neolibs" or "milquetoasts." It's all kind of weird and sad to witness. Especially when I think of doing real world recruiting back in the day that was focused on bringing people who seemed somewhat aligned in, not reducing them with a cheesy label.

It's funny to me that you think I would somehow twist my politics in order to, what? prove some petty point that "oh you were mean so I'm going to shoot myself in the foot". lol no.

I know I don't owe you an explanation but it's certainly amusing, if not a bit sad, to watch you let your imagination get the best of you.

I am truly, genuinely deeply horrified at what Bernie has said about candidates of color and women candidates-- I think he deeply misunderstands (or maybe worse, doesn't care about) intersectionality (I'm cheered that he said he'd want a younger woman of color as a running mate though). Note that over the years I've expressed gratitude at Bernie's having moved the window to the left. I'm very glad he's helped do that. I don't want to relitigate 2016 but since you're asking, I found that staying in the race after it was mathematically impossible had a corrosive effect. I saw multiple real world friends go from Bernie supporters to Jill Stein supporters to deep, deep conspiracy theorists and off the deep end. Is that Bernie's fault? Not directly. But beating the drum of "rigged" and refusing to go out gracefully, in my opinion, was extremely extremely damaging and fed lots of people's worse instincts.

I think the Democratic party is super fucked up, very often. Ie fuck Chuck Schumer, but I digress. One reason I adore AOC is because she's a bold, unapologetic lefty who says, hey I'm in this party and guess what it's actually MY party and I'm yanking it so far in this direction that you won't recognize it when I'm done. I mean what's better than that? I think she's a fucking hero for that. So I guess I'll answer your question re: Bernie not being a Dem. In my opinion it's having your cake and eating it too-- it's wanting to play outsider while being an insider. It's saying you want the body to be there for you and to support you when you need it but you are not willing to give your full support back. Yes I've seen the twitter video that people love to post-- Bernie's not a Democrat, cut to images of the Dem official website. Cool, I get it. Yes he caucuses with the Dems but by keeping himself outside, he's saying, imo, "they're actually not good enough and I need to keep my distance and you all should do the same." I actually think it would be profound and powerful for Bernie to join the party, vow to stay in and vow to reshape it into what he thinks it should be. But as it is, his relationship with the Dems has an implicit, always, us v them component that I don't think needs to be there and causes unnecessary divide.

I know I'm loud and probably annoying for a lot of people (again, I came up getting in the face of couterprotesters and screaming at them, so yeah that probably hangs on a bit) but that's OK with me. I don't love any group think and it always makes me edgy. I also don't love and have never gotten into "yasss queen"-ing any politician. I might appreciate someone's actions or attributes but I bristle at cults of personality.

I dunno I'm rambling and this is a blog post now so sorry.

Law? This isn't a case of policy beyond economic. People of all races are struggling.

Beyond that, it's just about learning to understand each other. Things have gotten better, but the internet has made the world smaller and therefore made race relations even harder. Communication would be important. Income equality would also help. But ultimately, racism is a sickness in America and entirely cultural that will take hard work between all parties.
