Instagram is "ruining" sushi by encouraging people to consume it in the "wrong" way, ie not eating it immediately so you can take a picture, combining more ingredients for the sake of a visual, etc. Also seems to focus exclusively on high end NY spots.

i had poke last year when i traveled to Anaheim for a fighting game major tournament. i was treated to a meal by aunt and i chose what I assumed to be sushi and got poke. I tried. I earnestly did try it. But the fish chunks were big and slimy. Raw fish only works when its small bits, like in something like....i don't know, SUSHI! Instead, you're eating big chunks of raw fish and it's fucking gross. Poke is how your eight year old self envisioned sushi would be. And my poor aunt treated me out for a meal I couldn't even finish.

Sounds like a bad place. Any dish can be made to taste bad, especially if it uses off ingredients (ur fish being slimy means it had spoilt. It's basically a viscose layer of bacteria forming on the outside to consume the fish).
