I'm now reminded why I haven't been playing as much recently.
My pockets are always full. My house storage is always full. So far there appear to be no dressers for more storage. It's so tedious to me. I constantly have to empty my pockets and crap. So I don't buy anything and I don't bother digging for anything so I've stopped having fun. Then there's the fact you have to have tools on you constantly which takes up 5-6 spaces plus crap for crafting which means you'll always have at least 10-11 spaces full of required crap. Between making citizen satisfaction into a grind, the crappy egg event, and tbh I'm just not finding it fun anymore.
Lack of storage space took a lot of the winds out for me since I like having color variations of a lot of the Able Sisters' stuff. Biggest reason I wanted to pay off my loan, in all the other games storage isn't tied to house size so I was OK with taking a year+ to pay off my house. It took me 13 months for New Leaf IIRC, but I couldn't stand having less storage in this game.
Honestly storage should be a separate upgradeable thing, maybe even still tied to your house, but have it be something Nook can change like the roofing and paint.
I will say, it seems like players do get to a point where it's less of an issue. Fully upgrading the house, or even just getting the second floor (800 spots), is a huge help, and once you have enough bridges/ramps you can sock those tools away. I've also been considering storing more of my crafting materials since I just don't use them often enough anymore.
ACNL only had 16 inventory slots
total, so I'm pretty happy with that aspect of NH (even with tools and crafting materials I have about 24
free slots), and things even stack much better in NH, it's just house storage that needs rebalancing/reworking.
