Can't say I'd want to go back and play any of these games and wouldn't buy this, but not gonna hate on it either. Plenty of people liked it. Plus maybe they'll do something cool like put the N64 DD games/features on there.

I don't think they can get Diddy Kong Racing, because it has Banjo and Conker. Iirc WiiU Virtual Console also only got DK64 (

) and never DKR. Also some other decent games like Rayman are all by 3rd parties that never provided anything to these collections. Obviously, Capcom, Square, Konami, etc. are all Playstation (but I kind of feel that PS Classic will drop the ball).

I don't think there's any reason to think that Nintendo couldn't work out deals with third parties that they didn't do deals with previously for NES/SNES Classics. Dunno if they'd want to/could do a deal with MS for Rare stuff, though, but who knows?

Minecraft is a universal brand and crossplay was a good opportunity for console war marketing, but I don't know if they'd go as far as sharing their games for this

- especially the ones they are themselves selling right now through Rare Replay. It would be a good way to generate more goodwill for N64 than it deserves though, since this would be an unexpected surprise.

They had to cut Banjo/Conker for the rerelease. But it was different times altogether, considering that MS released Viva Pinata on the DS and had a Halo DS prototype in the works. We'll see

Imo you need Diddy Kong, Banjo 1 and Goldeneye (which is impossible either way).

Hopefully their internal N64 emulator is good. Their NES and SNES emulators have had pretty good compatibility, but I could see the N64 emulator not being up to par and requiring Retroarch if it gets hacked

Was surprised when looking up videos how slow the movement is, seem to remember it being a bit faster, but yeah it was a fun game.

Multiplayer racers where you can shoot things at other players were kind of a thing on the console. Road Rash 64 is another that's not frequently mentioned. Had the most amusing vehicle combat of any of them. Whacking other bikers with giant bananas and spraying them with mace as they collide into oncoming traffic never gets old

is almost always optimal.

And the way the z button is right under the analog stick always felt so damn smooth especially playing a game like Zelda. Probably my favorite trigger button.

I don't mind the N64 controller but once its stick wears out you're kind of shit out of luck.
The fact that you can buy brand new GC controllers makes that GC to N64 adapter seems like the best replacement controller imo.
A lot of these newer third party N64 controllers fail to match the precision of the official stick, believe it or not.

The GameCube controller isn't symmetric either with only that one Z button. I've never understood why there wasn't one on both sides. Some games could have used that.

On a side note about it, that big ass A button surrounded by the others, the rigid nature of the c-stick rather than being a true analog and the click buttons under L and R are things you never really think about until you do something like try to map it to a 360 controller to play Metroid Prime on Dolphin or whatever.

Mapping the N64's buttons to any other controller can have similar issues. I liked how on the VC they were just like "fuck it, we're going to just remap everything from scratch" I think Mario Kart 64 has like three "use item" buttons or something because why not stick more of them on there. For that one they should have also added a prompt that says "really? you want the speedometer up? who hurt you growing up you sick freak?"
