If I can't download and play all of my PS4 and PSN purchases on day 1 to my PS5, then Sony majorly dropped the ball.

Even if PS5 does manage full legacy BC, I can very easily see Sony offering Subscription-like tiers:
PS1 - $9.99 a month..
PS1 & 2: - $14.99 a month..
so on and so forth.
