Also, yeah this is footsies based fighter. Watch Max’s footage for an example. Sub Zero has a good poke that’s an ice axe. He’s also got a Ryu-esque light kick. Good for ticks and close quarters approaching.

It really isn’t a surprise I found MK sluggish and awful. Before, I only played on game pad. Last night I played on arcade stick and it controlled excellently. Tonight I’m trying it out my 360 pad and again I think it controls like shit. It’s the pad. It’s not as smooth as a jlf and push buttons. Hell, I didn’t like it even when I was a pad exclusive player when the game itself game out. But I have no silent arcade parts and it’s late and I don’t want to wake the roomie. But this is truly torture for me.

NRS always kills their audio design* but I'm glad Skarlet is back if only because that means more excellent bassy liquid sounds. I still sample MK games for this reason lol. Love her new design and the fact that she sounds like Marion Cotillard now.

MK and IJ players do that anyway? It's just it was never built around a strong neutral game until now. If anything a player like you should be happy because it means crazy crazy shit will no longer be super effective. FG fundamentals should carry you further now.

Scorpion has a great overhead in that video. Also a good pressure stopper in I’m assuming is his crouching light kick. Game looks mysteriously like a traditional fighter, like an SF or SamSho. Crazy.

I think a lot of the fgc could really dig this game. All of us grew up with MK so I think this could have some legs if it's good and NRS has the resources to support it in long term.

Have Stro on ignore so I didn't see his awful posts but now that Benji has quoted, what kind of person would imagine two people going at it and it not becoming competitive? If you have never wanted to win at the bottom of your heart when playing a fighter you're dead inside. Fighters are naturally competitive. Go fuck off elsewhere and watch a snuff film instead if over the top violence is the only reason you play MK. FYI, learning to play a fighting game well is more fun than you'll likely ever have with it. :snob

In MK2 everybody had like 2 or 3 combos. I did sort of like how everybody’s move sets were almost identical though because the only real difference between each character was how the  hit boxes on their moves were set up and who had the sickest specials and fatalities.

There weren’t a billion combos to memorize.

MK11 looks to be moving more towards a system of shorter combos which is kinda nice. MK9 and X were cool but every good string was long as fuck and a pain to remember (at least for me).

I think the fact everyone has a fireball in MK is a good thing but also a detriment. I don’t know. I can only comment on what I’ve played of MK9 story mode. It’s incredible how diverse the characters can get despite the movesets not being too different. It’s certainly a game where features are universal but characters have their own style. Very reminiscent of Tekken or even Smash more so than SF.

How the fuck do you get "doesn't want to win" out of not wanting the game to be bogged down in technical bullshit catered to esports and youtube videos? Maybe you should read more books you fucking dolt. I get you are currently obsessed with fighters for the time being, but if you could hurry up and move on to something else, that'd be great for everyone.

It's definitely not an esports-centric game, that's for sure- Boon said that different loadouts are going to make it difficult for the FGC stuff and they may create "standardized" loadouts for use in tournaments.  I think Injustice 2 was the same way?  Dunno 'cuz I got tired of it far too quickly and stopped following anything about it past the dlc announcements.

Injustice 2 had a tournament mode that just made all the gear cosmetic only. It also had an option where it would randomize gear loadouts in tournament mode so you'd always have a unique looking character. Pretty cool idea. Overall NRS is one of the best at giving tournament players what they want without sacrificing the fun of everyone else in the process.

there's some surprising omissions but i guess that's what dlc is for. also there is an interview with ed where he says there will be hidden characters, so there could be more not listed in those achievements.
