Aside from the sideplot, I actually prefer Snyder's version to Miller's because it's so clearly purposely propagandistic from the blathering on about phony ideals by all the Spartans to the hunchbacked traitor to the depictions of the Persians as literal monsters trying to seduce Leonidas.
Snyder even included a scene where they SHOW the non-Spartan warriors who were at Thermopylae and has the Spartans go "oh yeah, go defend that part over there" and never mentions them again.
