i think the problem is that they definitely did steps 1-7. But they missed out on steps 8 and 9 and went straight to 10. Dany didn't do something morally questionable prior to this so it falls flat for some. Again a casualty to the shorter episode length. I think if they showed the journey to King's Landing, with them stopping over at, I don't know, the Riverlands and Dany demanding piety while also claiming to be a liberator and ending up burning people who don't bend the knee - not soldiers, not lords, but civilians - it would be that "oh shit" moment that would have led to proper build up. Instead, they teleported around the map and the character development suffered.

Because right now a lot of people saying this is out of character are saying her past kills are justified. She needs that one morally questionable kill before the big bang. To me, that morally questionable kill is burning the Tarley's. But many of her defenders consider that justified between they wouldn't bend the knee during wartime.

I think the fact it has been a week and the entire fanbase is divided to the point of essays and YouTube videos about whether the character development presented to the audience adequately established the motive's for her decision says all that needs to be said about whether D & D actually developed the character effectively or stuck this landing with the story.

More like a fraction of the fanbase can't get over the fact that these aren't the fucking books, and some corners have to be cut to make it within these seven seasons.

People literally talking about and debating if dragonfire can tear down stone walls..

Who fucking cares honestly. It's an enjoyable tv show, not the word of god.

Never been that hyped for GoT, to be honest, my peak was probably around season 3 or 4, but then i just followed it through inertia.
I'm curious to see how they resolve the Dany thing now, but not much beyond that.

The only way an entire season of “Game of Thrones” appears overnight is if you ignore it. And for about eight years and seven seasons that’s what I did. I thought I was being principled. The show started in 2011, deep in President Obama’s first term, and a feudal fantasy seemed like a complacent retreat. Whatever progress was supposed to look like, it seemed unlikely to be happening in this show’s fictional country of Westeros. But I also didn’t want to repeat the work I had already tried to do with other bleak, saga television, like “The Walking Dead.” Other people were going to have to watch the show for me.

The more you look at the lore, the more the following theory makes sense.

For the finale D&D asked George "Who wins the Game of Thrones?"
And he said: "Isn't it obvious Littlefinger is the protagonist. He set everything in motion, made every move and started nearly every war. From the murder of John Arryn, the Betrayal of Ned, the feud between the Lannisters and the Starks, the alliance between the Lannisters and the Tyrels(that finished off Stannis) to telling the Faith Militant that Cersei had commited a sin.". Varys said: "A man with no morals, he'd stand to be king of the ashes"

"Oops we killed him last season because it looked cool"

Dany: I want to burn things for my throne
Tyrion:You probably shouldn't
Dany: Advisor said I shouldn't do it so I won't do it

*Advisor loses 3 alliances and a significant portion of her fleet*

Tyrion: When you hear the bells pls stop
Dany:

PS: she's not mad, she realized she can only go the usurper way, which means gaining the throne by bloodshed.

I think we've had plenty of morally questionable deaths by Dany. She comes to any place, gathers absolutely zero intel about it and wants to "do justice" by punishing innocent people. Right now Dany despises the commoners of KL for not understanding all her sacrifice for humankind. And on her last cry for help before doing something she would've rather avoided, Jon went all "m'lady" on her, meaning the isolation was complete.

Yeah, I feel we're missing one episode, because having the consequences of these actions and conclusion crammed in one episode... i don't quite see it. But i'll wait and see, then we can conclude if it was worth the effort.

She doesn't see them as innocents. She sees them as essentially having committed treason by going to King's Landing and accepting Cersei's protection.

Now there's a good chance D&D explain it in an interview with "oh yeah she was PMSing real bad that's how women get" but still.

Finally caught up. This is what happens when you raise a generation on Marvel movies.

People now expect characters with clear motivations and carefully plotted stories that adequately build to a satisfying conclusion?

that's possible. Is that well communicated in the show? Not at all. In the episode she makes a crazy face and snaps. If that's the kind of "misdirection" they use to "subvert expectations" then that's cheap and not at all good writing.

I like how "his" rewriting is basically a collection of popular fan theories that have been around on reddit and whatnot for years :lol

Jon should have been the one to kill the NK, while dying in the process. It was his mission for like, 2 seasons. Arya had fuck all to do with any of it, she basically pops up out of nowhere and killsteals.

That would also make Dany's snapping a lot more logical, since it'd be the second time she loses the man she loves - and this time arguably Cersei is responsible, since she told them she'd send help to fight the dead (which was Jon's preoccupation for a while). They never presented it as her giving that much of a fuck about Jorah.
Obviously, that would have required first a little bit more development to Jon and Dany's relationship than what was basically a couple of tinder dates. The whole tension about who gets the throne was just distinguished mentally-challenged as well.

this is like the worst fanbase I'm actually almost ashamed to be a fan of the show myself with how cringe the fanbase is.
