I'm in third year uni and I have a friend who is as well. At uni, he has his own social circle and interacts with them a lot. He also seems to keep a prescence online as he is part of a discord server which he invited me to and it seems he's known the people there for a bit. However, aside from me, him, his gf, and his other irl uni friend there, most of the people there are like in H.S 16-17 and there is one 18 year old but they are in H.S, not uni and there was even a 12 year old. So I was thinking it's a little odd for a uni student to be friends with HS people if you didn't like know them from before in H.S but the issue is, they're pretty much edgelords who throw around slurs and one guy is a vic stan and complains about forced diversity or some nonsense. Now, my friend doesn't hold these views as when I've been upset over the slurs in the old server he sided with me but the thing is, I feel like he's too passive with them as he did argue against the guy whining about forced diversity but then said 'he's not bigoted so I can take you seriously' and even though my friend is kickvic, about the vic stan, he just said 'let's not waste time arguing about something we don't know for sure'. So basically, I'm concerned that he's taking the opinions of edgy HS's seriously or being passive towards them because they're his 'friends' or he's known them for so long or whatever. Like one of his friend is literally pals with an alt-righter and while my friend has expressed disapproval, I feel he doesn't do much about it to persuade him to ditch this guy or something, which is an issue as the alt-right is indoctrinating youth.

Not as disrespectful as altering the original design. The artists on gamefreak also put a lot of work on Nessa dsign to have them altering it.

I must confess that I've always hated whenever Tifa was compared to Lara Croft, as I always felt the latter was unquestionably designed and marketed around her polygonal pointy bits.

I recently coined the phrase "fast food" when referring to characters like that, where they don't have much in the way of a deep personality and primarily exist to sell DLC costumes and import figurines. The ultimate example of this, imo, is Mai Shiranui. I'm not saying you can't legitimately like the character, I'm sure she's got lots of fans not driven by her sex appeal...but the sex appeal defines the character. There's not much to her beyond legacy bounciness, pulling out fans from her cleavage and desperately wanting to drain Andy dry like a succubus.

Admittedly I never really played the old Tomb Raider games, so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that OG Lara had a bit more going for her. Nevertheless, I don't think I'm incorrect in saying that the sex appeal was always priority one when it came to the character. I did the biggest frown not too long ago when I saw Giant Bomb play the GBC game and learned that they actually added jiggle animations.

That's why I was legitimately shocked when I saw the rebooted design for Lara, and that it came from Square Enix of all companies. Say what you will about the overall execution, but I still applauded them for breaking what must have been the ultimate titty taboo among fanboys and even dared to focus on anything besides Lara's chest....which was still buxom but still within reasonable proportions!

That's when I began looking at the Lara/Tifa comparisons with a hopeful eye, hoping that the day FFVII gets a Remake that they would give her a similar treatment. Because I've always viewed Tifa as one of the best written RPG characters, with the game giving her a multi-layered personality that's still revolutionary for the genre even today. And it was never about eliminating her sex appeal, just making sure that wasn't her primary attribute.

And they succeeded well beyond my expectations. I couldn't be happier.

Now I just wish all the hashtags and clickbait sites would shut the fuck up about her ta-tas already.

One moment they're praising Jim Sterling for rightfully calling out gross industry habits like financial exploitation and crunch and the next they're ripping into a poster genuinely trying to discuss how much homophobia is steeped in Japanese games. Too many ready to eviscerate anyone who wants to talk about serious issues beyond gameplay. So many people don't just want to plug their ears to the bigotry in the industry but rather outright fucking explode when it's even brought up. And fucking always those same people bring up how much they hate "outrage culture" and want games to stay "apolitical". Particularly funny in the Cyberpunk thread where people seriously tried to separate the genre from real world ideals and issues.

We literally have an ignore function on this board for both threads and posters and they could easily block all the "SJW nonsense" they despise. Yet they go out of their way to emotionally attack anyone who dares bring up bigotry. This place is somewhat better than GAF but it really is a testament to how ubiquitous this internalized "anti-SJW" (aka. anti-empathy) mindset is in the gaming community. Kinsei might never come to this site again let alone this topic but if they ever do see this post, I hope they know that there are a lot of people here, including myself, who are sorry you had to deal with that inane bullshit from other posters. Wanted to give a shout out to Dauntless for it's inclusive character creator. The game doesn't start with a gender option. In fact, there doesn't seem to be a gender option at all. You start by choosing two ancestors, including two females or two males, and then use a slider to determine how many traits you'll inherit from each. Pretty neat.

I'm honestly surprised how much they consider Tifa as a win considering how some exposed thighs in other games freaks them out. Saying that she got the similar treatment as Lara Croft doesn't make any sense either since Square has been adamantly against putting reboot Lara into anything that even remotely looks like her original outfit while Tifa is still quite close to it.

Square are really schizophrenic in how they handle things, because you can see the clash between the different regional branches of Europe, Japan and America in how they handle things.
So while they'll make a Hitman ad full of scantily clad fetishwear nuns from the Euro branch, and have big titty fanservice featured prominently in their biggest franchise from the Japan side of things, Square US (ie Crystal Dynamics) seemingly go to great lengths to make Laura Craft as pitiful, broken and unsexy to people not into torture porn and broken people as possible.
