He greenlighted some airstrike like in Syria, but didn't want casualties so he called Iran to say where the strikes where headed, so they could leave the site (in Syria they even moved the planes lol) and then Putin called and said " don't do it, or I'll make shit and fire rain so hard on you, you'll need a godam UN resolution to stop me " and Trump back down ?

The only good reason for US not to go to war is a moral one and US public pressure. Iran won't be as hard as Iraq and definitely way easier than Vietnam for the reason that US won't be nation building but just blowing shit up.

The chance for an accidental war have been high for a while because the US state department has been gutted. Crisis like this are usually resolved in murky rooms with frantic but competent diplomats and ambassadors passing along messages.
