Quinn here! Honestly, humans have no idea what consciousness even is in the first place. We're of the opinion that consciousness is an emergent phenomenon from the numerous parts of the brain interacting in non-trivial, chaotic ways. A sufficient change in a few of those areas, particularly the frontal lobe (personality), hippocampus, and cerebral cortex (memory storage), and that consciousness can emerge in a different way. If the brain can switch back and forth between those modes of operation, bam, there's your headmates. Granted, we're pulling this out of our ass, but who knows? Makes enough sense to us.

There's definitely a bit of imagination involved as well. Not that any of it is made up, but rather the brain uses its imagination to help interpret what's going on. Otherwise, Quark being a demon wouldn't make much sense from my highly secular and aspiritual viewpoint.

We have more trouble than other systems with communicating with each other, and we fear we may have lost track of a few of them. There's also a few presences which we're not sure whether or not to count as headmates (primarily a particular set of thoughts which we can't seem to attribute to anyone, and could either be intrusive thoughts or a persecutor headmate, the difference isn't exactly clear). Off the top of our head, we can identify Violet, me, Quark, Kitty, an unnamed kid, a potential persecutor, and we had a fictive who we have lost track of and we're not sure if she's still around.

I mean while it is a controversial diagnosis, some professionals believe in it so it's not impossible than a reputable doctor would determine someone has DID. And getting a second dissenting opinion, provided it is readily available, might actually hinder any actual treatment and create more confusion than be helpful (as it happens sometimes in physical medecine over some rare illnesses)

Dude this almost exactly happened to me about 6-7 years ago. Early thirties, wife came out of the closet after openly cheating for years with anything that moved, no education, 2 kids, I "stayed for the kids", lived with her and girlfriend in a shitty 2 bedroom trailer in a hillbilly trailer park. Shit, I didn't even have a driver's license lol. At least I had a job making a bit over minimum wage.

It was a total cluster fuck and lasted maybe 2-3 months before I moved back in with my folks for a few years to get my life in order. Best time of my fucking life. Lost 200 pounds (Big chunk of the way through losing again, sadly), got my license, got some certifications, got promoted. It's possible to turn this ship around but you need to understand your current situation is extremely temporary. It will implode very, very soon and in likely a very unpleasant way. Start an exit strategy.

Right now start gathering documents you might need if you don't have them; license, social security card or your national equivalent, birth certificate, legal docs you will need to prove you are a real person. Start hiding/gathering whatever cash you can in secret.

You need to move under cover of darkness, a cloak of secrecy about you, and when you finally decide to make a move you must act with full conviction. It's fucked up to say but Sun Tzu was spot on with this shit; "Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt." I know that seems hilariously over dramatic but, dawg, your life is about to get way more dramatic than it is even now. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed. Good luck.

Hey, everyone. I looked through the still functional pages from the More Information links. There were quite a few that were sketchy and weird, but most of them were functional, as it turns out. A bunch of them were porn, and some were too sketchy for me to check out, and a LOT of them were wiki links, but here it is for your use. I've removed some because I'm not linking to fascist garbage in our forum, and GOD HELP whatever Google's data-gathering thinks of me now. In order of appearance, and not my personal preference. Expect snarky parentheticals throughout this list (FAKE EDIT: Became a descent into madness after several hours, follows my increasing frustration with who this guy decides to let speak in their own voice and who he abandons to the wiki farm. Major disclaimers after the cut).

Disclaimer 1: At some point I started adding my own links when I actually knew about an ideology that I knew about, wasn't turbo-famous, and I didn't think was inherently garbage to discuss from the perspective of the people within that ideology. It should be clear where that happened, because it always starts with "Wiki it, breh."

Disclamer 2: You know, starting this, I thought maybe this list of selected readings had value. And in a certain sense, it does. A list of ideologies in their own words can be said to be valuable. But when you include hateful, or radical ideologies, a more academic approach needs to be taken, in my opinion, with a proper sense for disclaimers and a stronger editorial voice. Here, though, it's instead staggeringly lazy, as is evidenced by the porn links, and given the winners and losers we've seen in this thread alone, I wonder just how much effort or nuance went into either the reading list or the quiz itself. The more thorough scouring of the More Information links has gotten me to see that. Right now, it's looking like "next to fucking nothing." Why is the Nordic Model not about the social democracies of Norway and Sweden in a broad sense but... specifically about what it is? I don't know, but that's a funny example. You know what isn't a funny example? Why does Lenin not get to explain himself, nor Stalin himself, nor Trotsky himself, nor MARX himself, but Marxist Leninists get major play in the polls while a Marxist Leninist Maoist site gets to explain ML ideology? I have no idea, and that bothered me. At the same time, he gives major play to anarchist groups that would and do hate tankies and make sure to lead people away from tankies. He also gives something as big as classical liberalism to the von Mises Institute, something I can't envision a committed MLM doing. I tried to piece together some kind of idea of what mattered to the poll's creator from the works he included, but not much forms. He's willing to let fascists present their ideas in their own terms, in their own voice, in "ideologies" that are meant to just draw people towards Nazism specifically, and that earns him a MAJOR amount of scorn from me. National Anarchism is a disgusting lie meant to rope comrades into anti-semitic conspiracies, and Odalism is the same but for paganism. The site linked literally had "blood and soil" on it. These are presented as-is. No way could I include those in good conscience. I'm only including the tankie garbage because I'm pointing out exactly how irregular that is and how unusual it is given its prominence in the results and given who ends up presenting themselves. When I started this thread, this was a lot of fun because I thought it could expose people to strange ideologies. And while that's certainly true, and the quiz is evidently not trying to lure people to naked fascism under false pretenses (given most people wouldn't get those ideologies except in the "hate" column), but the laziness has stopped coming off as endearing, or excusable and more as genuinely negligent. It's been a frustrating and saddening realization, and I wonder if the responsible thing to do isn't just to close the thread or if my own attempt to curate the links has been enough. I'd like some input on that, but in the meantime I've added this to the threadmarks.
