What happened is awful, but-

WTF...

Isn't the Smash fanbase in particular well known for being toxic and creepy? I feel like I have read there is a history of this kind of stuff?

Quote from: Saoshyant, post: 23368073, member: 4440
But EVO has had a dark side for the past years and that dark side is this gigantic piece of shit that is the face of it: Joey Cuellar AKA Mr Wizard.  The Infiltration thing?  That isn't an isolated incident.

You know what made me feel unwanted a while back?

When I made my thread about the toxicity in this stuff and talked about people sending me death threats, something I hadn't done out of fear

Then someone said I simply made the thread to gaslight people

and you agreed with them.

I thought doxxing past era posts from era posters was :wag

It was at the Red Bull party, but what do facts matter, we have to ban all drinking from any event involving men and women in the same room especially if there is also potential gamers involved.

Correct it was the "official" afterparty at some LAN center or something.

Also the bug example is terrible since I can kill cockroaches, I can't kill white supremacist.
A gun doesn't jam just because it's pointed at a nazi

Imagine posting this in a thread about deplatforming websites for encouraging violence.
Imagine posting this literally within a few days of a mass shooting.
Imagine being a moderator on a website, within a few days of a mass shooting, and holding the value that people using violent rhetoric should be silenced, and not seeing anything wrong with this post.

"deplatforming works" what the fuck

every prominent example of deplatforming is the dumbfuck deplatforming themselves, like shooters posting their manifestos on a site where the worst users cheer them on until their support systems decide on their own to cut ties

era accomplished exactly nothing

Milo is 4 million in debt, whose fault is that?  did era get him embroiled in some bad business decisions in a covert op to deplatform him?  did they secretly hook him up with young boys and convince him to talk publicly about his pedophilia, knowing the world would reject him?  or are these dumbfuck moves he made all on his own

deplatforming works is just another way to say play stupid games win stupid prizes, except that phrase doesn't make it sound like you accomplished anything (which you didn't)

We should just ban alcohol outright- a kind of "prohibition," if you will.  Surely that would work and nobody would oppose it or dare to break the law!

WE NEED MORE LAWS AND MORE REGULATIONS.

But no cops, we don't like cops.
"President Donald Trump today appointed former FBI director and special counsel Robert Mueller and former FBI director James Comey to lead an anti-terrorism investigation of internet comments. Senator Kamala Harris called on the investigation to focus especially on children and teens posting during school hours."

"New bipartisan legislation will require the entrance of a real name, home and work address, phone number, social security number, photo identification and other measures for the Single Internet ID System to ensure that inflammatory commentary on the internet can be traced back to locate potential lawbreakers in the real world."

Oh, the ooblets devs released a statement on medium

I wonder what they learnt from this?
Quote
We’ve been told nonstop throughout this about how we must treat “consumers” or “potential customers” a certain way. I understand the relationship people think they might be owed when they exchange money for goods or services, but the people using the terms consumers and potential customers here are doing so specifically because we’ve never actually sold them anything and don’t owe them anything at all. And if they choose to not buy the game when it’s released, that’s totally fine with us.

Quote
At the same time, our detractors were using the fact that we had a Patreon as a core argument for how we were supposedly double-crossing people. We’ve been getting nonstop questions about whether patrons will still get Steam keys or not, despite none of our Patreon tiers offering the game at all. Maybe these folks don’t know what Patreon is and think it’s the same thing as Kickstarter, or maybe they’re just trying to cover their undue entitlement in the trappings of concern on behalf of patrons.

Quote
I recognize that none of this post equates to an apology in any way that a lot of the mob is trying to obtain, and that’s by design. While some of what I’ve said was definitely bad for PR, I stand behind it.

Sure, but its extra easy to ignore "the harrassers" when your opening statement is along the lines of "Of course lovely people who pay us money and agree with everything we say are lovely people, and toxic entitled man babies are going to whine about it because they're toxic entitled man babies whining" and when you - shockingly - get negative attention to that statement can say "Told you so", because any criticism is de facto from a toxic man baby

Yeah but like... who cares... Who has the energy to care?

The game's development, even post-EGS exclusivity announcement, seemed to be going pretty well and under the radar...

I mean you're either interested in the game, or you're interested in the conversation about the game... seems like two totally distinct groups.

The game's development, even post-EGS exclusivity announcement, seemed to be going pretty well and under the radar...

I mean you're either interested in the game, or you're interested in the conversation about the game... seems like two totally distinct groups.

FYI, Epic are specifically picking games that are wishlisted by a lot of people on steam to target for exclusivity moneyhats, so a sizable chunk of people who - for example - saw its debut trailer at the E3 PC Gaming Show and added it to their steam wishlists and were looking forward to buying it on steam are the same people that made it a viable target for an EGS moneyhat in the first place.

I dunno, that scumbag from Epic Store seems pretty eager to ride this to generate good PR.

Yeah but like... who cares... Who has the energy to care?

It only takes two seconds to call someone a dumb cunt on the internet, and there's basically no downside to it, other than becoming a hateful shell of a person. :trumps

Oh, the ooblets devs released a statement on medium
https://medium.com/@perplamps/regarding-whats-been-happening-3af0f27d863c

(Image removed from quote.)

To be fair, that is on the harassers. If I'd get messages like that I'd probably also not pay any attention to the constructive ones.

It is pretty dumb that he talks about how his tongue in cheek blog post was misunderstood as condescending and patronizing, like, how is there any other way to interpret that post

I like being able to criticize stuff without being called “toxic asshole”. This dance smells like going again to GG territory which is worrying me a little even if I actually don’t care that much about that game or the Epic Store stuff.

You are right that I don’t care about the game and more about the conversation of Epic Store. That’s why I think is scummy that Epic now pretends to care about “devs” (yet again).
