local anecdote, here, in South Florida, the biggest grocery store chain is called Publix. It's actually a huge company, they made as much revenue as Nike did in 2018. Anyhow, if my memory serves correctly, as recent as a two-three years ago they had an aisle labeled "Ethnic Food." At some point most locations renamed it to "International Foods," but I can't pinpoint exactly when the change occurred. In this context, I don't think saying "ethnic aisle" is tantamount to horrible hate speech, although she could've used better wording for sure.

What are people supposed to be hearing besides "n-word store" though, someone get me up to speed on this.

I don't live close enough to go there regularly, but northern Dallas has a ton of Asian supermarkets [99 Ranch Market, Mitsuwa Marketplace, H Mart, Patel Brothers].

One of the two here is sorta like that, 99 Banh (quick google tells me they renamed recently to 999 Oriental Market ). They have groceries, appliances, some clothing and shoes, and a restaurant in there. Talk about efficiency.

Plus it's the #1 stop in the city for preserved mudfish, i guess

I'm in the fucking' south and can hop in the car, drive a few minutes, and hit a huge shopping plaza with an H-Mart, an izakaya, a ramen place, rotating Sushi bar right out of Japan, a "snack" place, Korean BBQ, karaoke, etc.  Or go a little further and hit up a huge international farmer's market with food from all over the world.  Or drive a little bit more and hit an entire huge stretch of road that is packed with various Asian and Hispanic restaurants and businesses of all kinds- often shops and minimalls with zero English on the signs.
