According to people who saw the spoilers for the movie he is shown to have incel like sentiments in the film and barely has his world view changed throughout the film. If thats correct then thats the difference, the glorification of incels, a group who have spawned mass murderers before. However as I've said before in this thread, I haven't seen the spoilers or the actual finished product so I'm not saying definitively that the movie does have a dangerous message. Personally the concept of it being inspiration of a mass shooting is less what I'm worried about, though it is a possibility, and more that it could normalise to a degree incel ideas by making them more palatable through the use of a well known and well loved character being framed as sympathetic and left unchallenged as he spreads similar sentiments. Hopefully that isn't what the movie does and its just a good Joker movie

While I don't think any similarities in idealogy the Joker may or may not have with incels in the movie would be on purpose, if it was it is possible they did it on purpose for free marketing via the backlash

Sympathetic villains are fine as long as the movie makes it clear they're still in the wrong, it's if, keyword if, the movie makes it seem like they are in the right that getz people worried.

I don't think it's mass shootings in particular that anyone should worry about with this movie, more just if it does glorify incel or alt right idealogy then it could bring more people to those movements. Though the movie could end up not doing that so it could all be fine, so it's really just a watch and wait and see the final product before making definitive statements sorta thing

Mental illness has nothing to do with most mass shootings today. They're motivated politically and emotionally, but these people aren't "crazy." They're making a choice, much like the Joker does in this film. Is the film likely to inspire violence? As tempting as it is to say yes, since we've already had one Joker-themed mass shooting at a Batman movie in the past, I would say it's more likely that it becomes adopted as a totem of the incel/white nationalist movement. Not because the film espouses their values but because it makes no judgment on those values, perhaps assuming that the audience will automatically know that what the Joker does is morally wrong. But leaving something that charged up to interpretation is inviting that kind of co-opting, as is evidenced by the adoption of The Matrix, a fairly upfront trans narrative written and directed by two trans women, being adopted by misogynist man-children as their metaphor of "wokeness" in the form of the Brain Force Plus.

Really sounds like a question that should be directed at a Psychologist or Psychiatrist. Unless Phoenix has a degree in such profession, he can't provide an answer of substantive value.

Yup, I was a huge fan of this game back when it came out and it's one 2 games on Steam I got all the achievements for... me and a few other trans ppl left the community back in April after this first came to light.

This is really disappointing, I haven't played the game but I know trans people who liked it and recommended it before.

Why's it always the games on my steam wishlist? damn. Good thing I procrastinated long enough to not buy either this or Ion Fury.

I know it's not the same since I'm not trans myself, but the amount of time I put into creating fan works and talking about the game here feels disgusting in hindsight. I remember using all of my winter break in January painting a piece of fan art for the game, putting all of my energy in doing it in a way that stressed me out to get looking right and detailed. Today I had to purge it from my galleries to not promote the game and all that effort feels wasted.

Shit really sucks, especially when the game was so impactful.

Well that's one game off my wishlist. I feel bad for anybody who played it without knowing they're supporting a TERF.
