Comicsgate is a campaign in opposition to perceived "forced diversity" and progressivism in the content of North American superhero comic books and the kinds of creators who work in the industry. The name is derived from Gamergate, a similar movement related to video games.[1][2] Participants argue that "forced diversity" occurs in both hiring and comics content, and that this has led to a decline in sales.[3][4][5]

The movement has been described as part of the alt-right movement,[6] and as a harassment campaign[7][8] which "targets women, people of color, and LGBT folk in the comic book industry".[9] It has faced blame for the vandalism of a store that did not stock comics created by its members, and for threats of violence against others.

And frankly going to a Star Wars themed park that is meant to be a canon part of the world, but being forced to wear jeans/shorts/t-shirts because of a stupid no dress up policy really kills the immersion for me. Even when they sell jedi robes at the park. Let me go and actually live in the Star Wars universe, and I’d attend the park

Damn, I genuinely forgot that happened.  I wasn’t surprised of that result when you get the comic books base and mix in social media, but is that really “gate-worthy”?  Is it Trek-gate when Trek nerds complained about gay Sulu and Discovery?  Is it Jedi-gate when Hobbly Bobberts is included as a guest on Star Wars podca- er wait, scratch that last one.

Kinda, maybe.  I don't remember too much apart from nerds getting triggered over Marvel having D I V E R S I T Y and replacing various superheroes with the opposite sex or different racial backgrounds.  It was very obvious that none of this stuff was going to be permanent (and had been done before, albeit not all at the same time) but cue RAAAAGE regardless.  IIRC there was a Youtube channel called "Diversity & Comics" who, despite the name, shat all over all these comics on a daily basis and triggered a whole lot of folks.  He would later try making his own comic and got blacklisted by various publishers after comics writer Mark Waid complained about him.  I think all this shit is what also led to The Quartering's channel growing in popularity/infamy.

In a statement to KSL TV, Alex Jamison, the man in the video and owner of two local eateries, Monkeywrench and Bolt Cutter, near the Gallivan Center, apologized.

Jamison stated:

“Well I’ll say that I’m not proud of my behavior, I let myself get egged on and I overreacted. I’m a protective small business owner who has asked hundreds of people not to smoke near our patio in the interest of our customers and our neighbors’ customers. I try to be respectful and generally always get good responses. I asked him multiple times during the day to please go to the designated smoking area but should not have reacted to feeling disrespected. I certainly owe the other person involved an apology and would like to make it right with him however I need to. I did not mean to cause him any harm. Our business is committed to fighting for animal rights and this must include other people. I’m sorry.”

In the meantime, Bird said he is experiencing various side effects including shortness of breath and headaches from the chemicals in the fire extinguisher that he inhaled.

ResetERA.com REDEEMED, The Bire ANNIHILATED:
Family members of those killed in the July 20, 2012, mass shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, have signed a letter to Warner Bros. sharing concerns about the upcoming Joker film and asking the studio to donate to groups that aid victims of gun violence.

"We are calling on you to be a part of the growing chorus of corporate leaders who understand that they have a social responsibility to keep us all safe," reads the letter, a copy of which was shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

...

"I don’t need to see a picture of [Holmes]; I just need to see a Joker promo and I see a picture of the killer," says Sandy Phillips, whose 24-year-old daughter, Jessica Ghawi, was among the slain.

...

In an interview, Sandy Phillips says that Joker, which centers on the isolated and mentally ill antihero who becomes Batman’s eventual arch-nemesis, is "like a slap in the face." She adds that she's concerned about audiences connecting to and even emulating the film’s protagonist in a cultural climate where mass shootings have become commonplace.

"My worry is that one person who may be out there — and who knows if it is just one — who is on the edge, who is wanting to be a mass shooter, may be encouraged by this movie. And that terrifies me," she says.

One theater that apparently will not be showing Joker: Century Aurora and XD, the remodeled venue where the shooting took place.

...

it asks the studio to "end political contributions to candidates who take money from the NRA and vote against gun reform" and "use your political clout and leverage in Congress to actively lobby for gun reform. Keeping everyone safe should be a top corporate priority for Warner Brothers."

...

Holmes was compared to the Joker character because he sported bright dyed hair and, according to a now-debunked report at the time, called himself "the Joker" as he was being arrested. Daniel Oates, Aurora’s chief of police at the time, maintains "there is no evidence" Holmes ever said that.

Nevertheless, says Oates, "Every time there is a mass shooting or, in the collective media culture, a portrayal of a mass shooting or an evil character who engages in the wanton, random, senseless killing of innocents, we are all traumatized again." Sandy Phillips expands on that: "For me, it's the gratuitous violence that this film glorifies and elevates with the Joker character."

When have I ever said this article is ok? When have I dismissed that the article is bad?

I’m just concerned about people using this shit as a cover to start bringing in GG-level rhetoric about sites they hate and especially them starting to focus in on the writer, with 0 idea how much of this was due to the writer and not the editor or what they were assigned to talk about. Especially given that people immediately started insulting their past writing or acting like she was writing all of it without supervision, instead of it being her job to write only about that topic?

The thread should probably just be locked at this point, imo. It’s moving too fast, everyone’s saying the same stuff, and this is just going to escalate.

There is some legit complains of comic companies hiring low quality writers with strong social following and some veterans like Waid have acted like jerks even when is probably better ignore the assholes. Still, is pretty clear a lot people bitching about this are not regular comic readers, a lot of drama is remnant of GamerGate and its crossover with KickVic/ISWV shit show.

People bitching about diversity (or the lack of it) should complain more about the lack of good writers and stupid Editorial decisions rather than pretending that comics were always apolitical.

I'm going to go ahead and suggest that most cases of assault and battery probably actually have little to nothing to do with with white supremacist leaders or some kind of self-defense political resistance.

This story originally included screenshots from the Harry Potter and Pokemon animated porn parodies. We’ve removed those images after readers expressed discomfort over some of the scenes, and believe that words can sufficiently explain the material.

They leave the Zelda screenshots that include stuff like this:

While Link and Mipha were making tadpoles, Zelda was having sex with Bokoblins

:hmm  :gamergate  :hmm

Can't wait to see Kotaku cover this shitshow. I bet Jason Shreiker will post a heart felt apology on REE hoping to dodge his own cancellation.

Also fucking weird they can edit this shit so quickly?

Anyone fucking remember how long it took them to edit "Retort it" by Laura Kate Dale?

Holy shit, it is also a rape scene:

Quote
All the while, her actual in-game voiceover plays, asking Link, “How did it come to this?” She pleads with him to help, wailing, “I’m sorry—my power is not strong enough,” as her face is plastered with rails of jizz. “Wake up, Link,” she says, after consuming enough Bokoblin sperm to feed a family. “Open your eyes.” And he does. It was only a nightmare! A weirdly specific nightmare!

Kotaku explicitly supports CP and does nothing to stop it from being posted by their content creators.

Maybe if it's so difficult to find SFM porn that isn't underage that speaks to certain wider issues regarding how we consume pornography and the sexualized depictions of underage characters in media

Doesn't change the fact that the creepy writer of the article thought that it was a good idea in the first place.
