Reminder that TLOU was a game for ps3, that console with 256mb of ram. I see people mentioning titles that came way later. Sure they never managed to make the buddy AI sneak properly but that's pretty much the only real flaw on a gameplay level, aside from some puzzles that lack the visual richness of the Uncharted setpieces.

Counterpoint: good games are designed for the hardware they are running on. So they should have just ditched it completely or done something differently.

That’s why I think games that haven’t aged well do not exist. mario 64, MGS and Ninja Gaiden are still great games. Goldeneye was always garbage.

Yes, in the case of TLOU it feels like they really wanted more, but legitimately couldn't. My Ps3 fat turned off randomly without actually overheating.

A lot of the usual suspects on RE usually have not made secret that they thing that video games are creating mass murderers and racists sexists pigs. The only reason why they started to deny this is the case in the Joker thread is that they know has been something that most video game fans get annoyed about and rally against. But suddenly Lord Ostia and the others are saying in the other drama/plsbanthis thread that they may totally do...

The solution here about using the term "Birthing parent" would set a biological standard that I think most can get behind. The problem in the story in the OP isn't hung around the terms used, but on a person's want to move from one box on the page to another. If they were granted their wish it wouldn't solve the issue folks have. The problem here I think comes from the perception and use of birth certs. Some folks do not view it as a historical document and believe it should be updated to reflect a person's current situation. I don't think birth certificates should ever be amended post-fact except in cases of extreme error. Going back to your birth cert and changing your gender or name should not be a thing. But I believe this is an issue about how birth certs are used and for what reason. Birth certs should not reflect your currently chosen identity.

I feel like their hysteria might actually cause a self-fulfilling prophecy where some guy thinking about a mass shooting reads this "controversy" and decides to do it for the infamy of being the guy who did the thing that people were worried about someone doing.

How ironic would it be if someone with a vendetta against incels shoots up a theater believing that only incels would watch the movie

Man that Alucard dude is even shilling hard on Neogaf for a game streaming future, talk about being desperate.

I haven't seen someone shill so hard for something since like the ps2/dreamcast days on gaming-age. I wonder what his real angle is? Maybe a gaming pc fell on his dog or something? I mean if it takes off as mainstream. OK I guess? If its the only way to play gta 9 or something, fine, Ill miss the clarity/latency/and moddablity of local compute but whatever. But its just bizarre someone hyping up something that is akin to Netflix, or Disney+? I mean ....yeah you stream a game.... big deal? Should I shill for spotify like its something to be proud of/astroturf over?

I mean I almost want to dustoff my old gaf login to respond to his PR campaign (dont worry I didnt get that desperate). I have a feeling nothing I would say would be valid beyond "well I guess in your case mostly local gaming + some streaming exclusives here and there, will probably be ideal".

Like I primarily PC game and ironically I really don't give 2 shits about uber performance (graphically). Hell I am rocking an i5 2500k and a 970gtx in 2019 for crissakes. But I do like modding, or being able to find cool shit that isn't by one person (Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead). And I dont see that kind of community open source stuff ever appearing streaming. I mean they may allow some "diet" modding like steam workshop is, but will they let a user run an open source port of Doom, using brutal doom? Or a sims mod with a bunch of added drug use/dealing? Or a script extender dll file that hooks into the latest bland bethesda game to allow mods that actually make it worth playing?

I doubt they will. But I am content with being a niche of a niche nowadays I guess (like a car tuning gearhead but for computers).

Quote from: Nepenthe
I agree with that essence of that truncated quote, but not in the way he means.

The discussion around this film has collapsed into a defensive echo chamber. You cannot discuss the themes of the film and their relation to current society without eager fans claiming you are either inciting moral panic, trying to get the film banned, or ironically trying to will into existence mass shoootings- the latter claim completely contradicting this sudden idea that "media has no effect on people."

Furthermore this belief doesn't make sense in a community that often goes out of its way to champion minority inclusion, citing- well- the social benefits of seeing minorities in non-stereotypical roles in notable productions. I guess media only matters when it's convenient or you get a SpiderVerse out of the deal?

The language has been striking too- claims of an "agenda," "censorship," and "free speech" have fun afoot, and along with the general hostility to people's opposing thoughts and concerns this is not all that dissimilar to the Ghostbusters row and typical trashy apolitical gamer/Gamergate rhetoric. It's become extremely alarming how quickly the veneer of progressivism flew out the window over this one film.

And it's also confusing. Remember that ridiculous satirical film where Trump supporters were victims of a hunt got canned due to backlash and absolutely no one gave a fuck? I do.

So yeah, if nothing else, the left and the right have become a little blurred in this scenario. But it's largely not coming from the people criticizing the film.

Slayven is a fat ass? I’ve never seen a pic. Of course, never met someone that into comics that’s skinny either... except Benji...

I actually think enzom might just be a bright yellow black guy. I’m not sure I 100% believe he is white  based on his hands... but he definitely semi-revealed that people sometimes mistake him for being white.

ResetERA.com defeats The Bire yet again: https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/26/us/adl-new-hate-symbols/
Quote
The "OK" hand gesture is now a hate symbol, according to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League.

The ADL added that symbol along with several others on Thursday to its long-standing database of slogans and symbols used by extremists.

The finger-and-thumb OK sign is universally known for meaning everything is all right or approval of something. But the ADL says while not everyone means it to be hateful, the sign has been co-opted by the alt-right.
Quote
It was meant to bait the media or people with liberal ideals to overreact, ADL experts say, and therefore look ridiculous for condemning such an innocuous sign. But in 2019, the sign was adopted by some white nationalists.

"At least some white supremacists seem to have abandoned the ironic or satiric intent behind the original trolling campaign and used the symbol as a sincere expression of white supremacy," the ADL posted in its report.

"We believe law enforcement and the public needs to be fully informed about the meaning of these images, which can serve as a first warning sign to the presence of haters in a community or school," Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO said in a statement.

The reaction to this movie makes me wonder if society in the US is as broken as people here make it seem.

If people legitimately fear that a comic movie will cause mass murder in a country that country must be a shithole and people living there have a duty to warn everyone wanting to go there to visit or to live as an immigrant to stay away

Dotard doesn’t originate from r-tard, actually. It’s its own word with a different origin.

back when i had a reee account, i reported someone for using 'dotard' because i didn't realize it meant dumb old person, and thought it was a combo of donald and distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.

A mod sent me a PM informing me of this. I guess this mod didn't get the message.

edit: although, when you capitalize the D, it kinda makes it clear that you are not using it to mean dumb old man.

Dotard: an old person, especially one who has become physically weak or whose mental faculties have declined.
