I thought it was a little odd that he was attracted to his black neighbor because I interpreted him and his mother as the classic crazy insular family that would probably be kinda racist, coupled with racial divides in the late 70s early 80s, is this really realistic, or included so it's not a film about nothing but white people

Well, this case is more complicated than that. Alas, is the US backstabbing an ally because a more rich and more authoritarian ally demanded it (something that is not uncommon from the US). Hell, you can argue this is still in the colonialism paradigm.

Agreed. Reminds me of heavy metal subgenres. They only matter to people who are really into heavy metal. Yeah that thread highlights what is wrong with era, but the forum is compartmentalized and self aware because bisexuals aren't something to be outrage defended yet. Once you get past male/female/nb though, what gender a person is is entirely individual and self declared. There arent exactly large numbers of people declaring themselves 4th gender. If you aren't attracted to those genders, it just means you aren't attracted to individual people.  I also don't really understand how a 4th gender could even work, as it seems like everything that isn't one of the binary genders is just...nonbinary.

These distinctions seem like they are only useful as food for thought.
