The “bladeoftheimmortals” interlude in this thread is HILARIOUS

Dude is like “i designed videogames! I graduated in marketing and managements, i taught in mandatin and i cant get a job!”

Turns out the dude made A Flappy bird clone in unity, graduated 10 years ago in marketing “and only followed a few management classes” and then fucked off to China for to teach english. Now he cant get a marketing job back in the states with his outdated degree with no experience and he’s blaming the world.

Yeah that was the image i was referring to.
It seems ironically regressive, if you think about doing away with gender norms.

What I've taken from that image is that it's basically impossible to define those two sexualities relative to each other without making unfortunate implications about some combination of trans people, non-binary people and/or whichever one of bi or pan you're not talking about at that moment.

These distinctions seem like they are only useful as food for thought.
These distinctions are largely only useful for arguing pointlessly on Twitter and having the opportunity to tell people that you’re just. so. tired.

Drag a lot of this stuff out into the light and it just ties itself up in bullshit knots.

I still don't know what the fuck the difference is supposed to be

There's no difference anymore with apparent today's definition. Pan and bi are the same thing if bi is more than two genders. Gender thingies basically erased bisexuals, but that's a terrible thing to say, so they have to come up with those weird explanations.

Especially since a lot of the norms being "challenged", are really just relatively recent cultural norms that keep shifting around.
In the 17 hundreds men wore make up, wigs and walked on heels, but they weren't necessarily "non-binary".

So i don't see why you'd need a specific gender definition, if you like to dress and carry yourself slightly outside of the cultural norm.  :yeshrug
Again, it just seems incredibly pointless labeling taking away individuality from what is supposed to be a celebration of diversity and individuality.
The answer to restricting labels, can't be "more labels".

Gays are the real bigots now what with only being attracted to one gender, their own.

Alright, and I'm asking seriously here so pls be kind:

If a trans person's gender doesn't depend on their biology, why is there a distinction for trans-men and trans-women when it comes to attraction? If a bi dude likes men and women doesn't that necessarily include trans-men and trans-women? Like, if you don't like a trans-woman because she looks a bit manish isn't that just normal beauty preferences rather than being transphobic?

Oh right, attraction preference is problematic because it's based on outdated societal beauty standards so we as a society have to work really hard to make sure we want to fuck ugly people of any gender.

I understand that it can be hard for a trans-woman without passing privileges to find a partner, but... like... this isn't the fault of your potential partners.

Also, who makes the rules? Up there is says "It is possibly they recognize nonbinary people and just aren't attracted to them, but that usually isn't the case", isn't that a form of erasure? Did they do a statistical, blinded survey of 5000 bi people and this was the result? Or was this put together by a small group of bi/pan people who let their insular views affect this seemingly codified definition?

If I were a bi dude I'd be afraid to correct them because they'd label me problematic lol

If they're trying to codify all this as an effort to show this isn't some passing fad they are really fucking up because the more archaic rules and definitions are presented to more it seems like a bloated revision of D&D.

This is the post that prevents me from holding office huh?

"Attracted to multiple genders but not all"

Once you get past male/female/nb though, what gender a person is is entirely individual and self declared. There arent exactly large numbers of people declaring themselves 4th gender. If you aren't attracted to those genders, it just means you aren't attracted to individual people.  I also don't really understand how a 4th gender could even work, as it seems like everything that isn't one of the binary genders is just...nonbinary.

These distinctions seem like they are only useful as food for thought.

can anyone really describe themselves as being attracted to gender

people are visually attracted to sexual features, and as era will tell you repeatedly sexuality is different from gender

if you buy into their crisis on infinite genders theory then being attracted to "genders" would result in scintillating conversations like

"lately I've been really attracted to magigenders, I don't know what it is about them, their smile...I'm also on pretty good terms with horogender.  Recently got out of a bad relationship with an egogender and I don't know if I can look at them the same way anymore, so I don't know that I can identify as pan anymore.  I mean as if writing off condigenders wasn't enough already, but there aren't that many of them living in this city so it was easy to ignore them."

the serious answer to this is that trans people who think concretely I Am A Man Transitioning Into A Woman, with the hard M and the hard W, are considered truscum

the ones with actual diagnosed dysphoria who feel strongly they are the opposite of two genders are essentially marginalized and handwaved, trans women are women, they're just reinforcing the binary, instead we should focus our support on those who transition into non-binary alternatives

they're the ones who are REALLY struggling with the way society isn't ready for them and those are the ones the distinction supposedly would apply to

It would be very hard to transition into nb :thinking

But for real though... the more convoluted these internal rules become the harder and harder it becomes to self-identify as anything concrete and instead you just end up feeling rather non-specific, hence the rise in public nb and pansexuality I guess?

It's hard for me to understand since I have pretty concrete feelings about sexual attraction and I really am trying to understand but threads like this (the Big Mouth problematic tweet thread) make it clear that it's easier to just not engage.

I think that goes along with being able to claim you are trans while making no attempt to transition/pass at all

and I guess there's no set of rules here, it's not like if you are trans you must attempt to pass, but I was under the impression that a trans person is actively hurting and in severe anguish presenting as a gender they feel they aren't

if you're not trying to change anything about yourself and instead just saying people need to treat you differently and arguing on the internet

There was an era thread a while back where people were arguing strongly in favor of it and some said they themselves weren't trying and how dare you imply they need to

others, it may be a matter of not being able to afford it, or some do the bare minimum of DIY hormones following an internet guide without dr.'s help (because the doctors don't know your body like you do and will try to talk you out of it without recognizing your truth)

If I remember right some people tried to shame the idea of the bearded man wandering into the girl's restroom giving the alt-right all the ammo they need and there was pushback against that idea

I'm not going to try to search for it, I just wouldn't mention it if it wasn't a real thing era seems to take very seriously, why would they need to defend it if it was something no one did?

I mean... "any effort" is a really broad brush.
Put on a dress sometimes and pop some over the counter estrogen HRT menopause pills on no particular regime when you feel like it is 'effort', but not to the extent anyone would consider you to actually be serious about something that is ostensibly such a big deal to you.

that's the distinguished mentally-challenged part. Why would anyone think that what gender you identify as internally is what attracts other people to you? I don't make a conscious decision to be attracted to someone - i just am. How you see yourself means fuck all to me, it's all about how i see you.

I don't get why that's not both extremely obvious and unproblematic.
