Yes, because Japan is a good barometer for the rest of the world.
are you saying switch isn't mopping up in sales worldwide?
No I'm saying that PS4/Xbox/PC hardware and software sales have already mopped up worldwide and there's nothing to suggest next gen consoles won't.
So why wouldn't you continue to support the PS4 generation with already proven sales and not be unprepared for most likely successful next gen?
Because of whats going in Japan? Japan's console situation is not indicative of anywhere eslse.
I have thought for about a year now that it’s highly likely that Switch becomes the most important platform for Japanese devs that make games that cater to Japanese tastes ever since it was clear that the switch was a phenom there.
My guess is that this will become far more evident over the next year. I’m sure that PS4 and maybe X1 will still get versions of some weeb games, but the more obscure shit will stay Switch exclusive, and Switch will have feature parity, even if the graphics are worse on basically any Japan-centric game that they can make work.
I’m sure that the PS5 and X2X will stay lead for most Western devs, but if you like weird Japanese shit, I think that Switch will be the best platform to have. I’m curuioua what happens to yakuza after Judgment. Shifting Dragon Engine to Switch might not be easy, but they might not be interested in going back to the old engine (even though I sort of liked it better anyway).
