The Japanese 3rd party support is incredible. Probably the strongest for Nintendo since the SNES. They have Japan locked up tight for the next 2 years. if you're a Japanese company and you're not on Switch, you dont exist.

Nintendo ds and 3ds were things.

Sure, and the support theyre getting now is even stronger. PSP and VITA were sucking away a lot of developer attention from those consoles.

fuck no. DS is PS1-tier to this day, especially since its full of unique and exclusive content. If you have other consoles than the Switch, it has almost nothing new to offer 3rd party wise. Maybe it'd be a different story if the ports were at least timely, but only a fraction is.

It continously amazes me how gamers underestimate Nintendo. They literally merged their hardware divisions. Um. Nintendo portables mop up and since ds have had insane third party support. I don't understand why they're surprised Nintendo switch would have similar support? Because they never fucked with ds and 3ds? Or are they just that fucking stupid?

So is that Zelda Link Awakening game like an old-school style Zelda?

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening[a] is a 1993 action-adventure video game developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It is the fourth installment in The Legend of Zelda series, and the first for a handheld game console.

Link's Awakening began as a port of the Super NES title The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, developed after-hours by Nintendo staff. It grew into an original project under the direction of Takashi Tezuka, with a story and script created by Yoshiaki Koizumi and Kensuke Tanabe. It is one of the few Zelda games not to take place in the land of Hyrule, and does not feature Princess Zelda or the Triforce relic. Instead, protagonist Link begins the game stranded on Koholint Island, a place guarded by a whale-like deity called the Wind Fish. Assuming the role of Link, the player fights monsters and solves puzzles while searching for eight musical instruments that will awaken the sleeping Wind Fish and allow him to escape from the island.

Link's Awakening was critically and commercially successful. Critics praised the game's depth and number of features; complaints focused on its control scheme and monochrome graphics. An updated re-release titled The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX was released for the Game Boy Color in 1998 featuring color graphics, compatibility with the Game Boy Printer, and an exclusive color-based dungeon. Together, the two versions of the game have sold more than six million units worldwide, and have appeared on multiple game publications' lists of the best video games of all time. An upcoming remake was announced for the Nintendo Switch on June 11, 2019, and is scheduled for release later that year.

Nope;  played OG Zelda and the weird 2D side-scroller one and then beyond that I've played some of BOTW.

Well, tbh I suggest playing Link to the Past while you wait. The series changed a lot after Zelda 2 (side scroller one). Link to the past basically created the template for how Zelda is played the past three decades until BOTW came out.

I really hate the bloom and depth of field in Links awakening. The sprites on the game boy unironcally look better than this plastic sheen on everything.

A lot of the animation stuff is where it makes great strides (Tarin chomping on the bananas is cute) but much like Wind Waker HD, the game's attempt to dress up the simple graphics is harming it.

So I'm assuming Link's Awakening has nothing substantial new? It's the same game but with added dungeon trials? Are they going to sell this for full price?

Shit costs 6 bucks on 3ds.

https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Links-Awakening-Digital/dp/B017V7DIGW/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=link%27s+awakening&qid=1560277134&s=gateway&sr=8-6

How much are they charging for this shit? Yeah it's cute, but is this a substantial upgrade?

Sword and shield seem to have dedicated buttons. The sword is being used while the bombs and rocs feather take up X and Y. Thats a pretty nice upgrade, where sword and shield would hog up your only two buttons.

tbf I don't think you ever really needed the shield. But you always needed to jump, so that really needs to be assigned permanently to a shoulder button or something.

e: omg if the strength bracelet isn't automated,... but I don't think they will be crazy enough to overlook that.

I can't believe that's all they had to show for LA. I mean, not having to equip sword and shield is nice but other than that....they're really charging this for 60? Again, it costs 6 bucks on 3ds eShop.

Link's Awakening Switch has the opposite problem of FF7R. Whereas FF7R is too divergent from the original, Link's Awakening adds little of nothing new. I prefer a combination, REmake style.
