Peter Forsberg was my favorite Av and really my favorite player during his time in Colorado. He played a very physical game which eventually took a toll on him. But some of the goals in this montage show how good he was even when people were all over him physically. Loved watching him play.

Some more fun to get us hyped up for the preliminary playoff round. The ever so fun penalty shot. The penatly shot master kicks off the video. You know who. And I gotta say of all the goals scored, Roman Turek really gave Joe Sakic way to much space on the right. Bad body position from the start.

What if early aughts Islanders but feeling sick ?
It's OK I guess. The logo and anchor are not too busy or bland though feels a bit dated. Using a singular name is fresh enough in American sports but in the NHL it's hard to top the Avalanche which is so on point. Kraken sounds a bit silly and very "If you grew while Pirates of the Caribbean ruled the box office !" while simultaneously being pompous for going to a mythological name instead of the "Squids".

Some people on various other boards (looked at the Canucks forum) were bitching about the fact that they didn't chose some Native American name or logo. Blaming it on the damn PC/Cancel kultcha.  :lol. Bros, get a grip for Pete's sake.

I do think it's pretty cool that the home jersey (non-white) doesn't have any white in it. It does give me some Winnipeg Jets vibes with the colors. I mean maybe it isn't as close if I saw the jerseys side by side, but still. I like the striping on the arms and how it will look on the socks.

John Chayka leaves the Coyotes. New GM is Steve Sullivan who was the assistant GM. Seems like there was a rift and Chayka decided to step down immediately. Can't say it makes any impact for this season anyway. You are better off having an exiting GM leave before the draft.
Wonder what will be Chayka's next step.  :thinking

I would argue in the East it's Tampa or Boston.
In the west I'd say St. Louis or Colorado.

Blackhawks/Oilers series has been really fun. I haven't watched several of the series (Pens/Canadiens, Islanders/Panthers) and not talking about the round robins. But aside from the Canes/Rangers games, the aforementioned series has been my favorite so  far.

Another team moves on and another one goes home.

Flames defeated the Jets. 3-1 series win.

Had a good laugh today at how the Maple Leafs blew a 3 goal lead and now find themselves on the brink of elimination.

We'll guide you. This whole preliminary playoffs thing is unprecedented. Soon we'll have the proper playoffs with 8 teams in each conference.

For now just enjoy the chaos. I'd say today watch the Penguins/Canadiens game or the Blackhawks/Oilers game. For the sake of star power.

8 teams? Isn't that half the league? How are the play offs seen as legitimate if half the league makes it?

Sorry, coming from a baseball/soccer perspective so it's very different.

Yeah it's been 8 and 8 for like uhhhhhh... My entire life haha. And yep that's about half of the league.

I guess it doesn't feel wrong because the teams are pretty close to each other in terms of quality. Lots of parity. It's not like in the NFL where it would be God awful if half of the conference made it to the playoffs.
Essentially it's like basketball, but in the NHL there always seems to be an upset or two in the first round as opposed to the NBA where the 1 and 2 seed is very likely to destroy the 8 and 7 seed.

Draft lottery phase 2 for the overall number 1 pick tonight. 6PM eastern time.

Everybody is on the edge of their seat and ready to rage if it goes to Edmonton/Pittsburgh/Toronto except for their respective fans haha. I guess if I had to pick who I want to see get the number 1 draft pick it would be Florida. The team has been crap or very short of being a contender forever.

Meanwhile, here is your NHL playoff bracket for 2020:

Cindi as far as my memory goes, the onyl two series which are a repeat from last year are in the Eastern conference. Tampa/Columbus and Boston/Carolina.

Columbus swept the top Eastern seed last year in a massive upset. I'm sure Tampa won't allow that to happen again. That would be the end of coach Cooper I would have to assume if they don't win the series this time.
Boston took care of Carolina rather easily too. Maybe a sweep as well? But this Canes team is hot hot hot and Boston didn't play well during the round robin, so maybe Carolina will catch the Bruins slumping.

I'm most looking forward to the Canes/Bruins series in round 1 personally.

------
Some fun guesses:

Series most likely to be a sweep - Colorado sweeping Arizona
Series most likely to go to 7 games - Washington/NY Islanders (cause it seems like Washington always plays a game 7 at some point)
Best goaltending duel - Philadelphia/Montreal
Series with most goal on average per game - Chicago/Vegas (I don't know why. Just a hunch)
Series to have the most penalty minutes on average per game - Dallas/Calgary (I think I view Calgary as bad boys so, eh)

Yeah Boston swept Carolina last year. Which was funny because Canes swept the Isles after Isles had swept the Pens. St. Louis should have swept Boston to make it really ridiculous.

Tuukka Rask, goalie of the Boston Bruins has decided to opt out of the playoffs. That would make him the first to leave the bubble while his team was still in it I believe (Canadiens coach is currently out of the bubble, but not voluntarily. He has a medical issue and thus will miss the first round. Not Covid related).

Rask made a comment a few days ago that seemed to rub some people the wrong way. But I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it. He's got a family and maybe the bubble just wasn't working out for him or perhaps someone else in the family. So Rask is out for the remainder of the playoffs. Jaroslav Halak will take over. He may be the number 2, but he ain't your typical one step lower backup. Guy has had starting goalie experience with several franchises and has had big playoff moments too.

So it's a strange development, but one that makes sense assuming Tuukka is leaving due to family reasons and not something else that the franchise is keeping hush hush. I don't have any reason to believe the story is covering up for something else unless that somehow turns out to be the case.

Watched the third period of the Bruins/Canes yesterday. Boy that must have brought up lots of PTSD for various people. Toronto fans, James Reimer. It was impressive. I haven't seen such a dominant period all playoffs. Going to be hard to recover from that game for Carolina. The difference between 2-2 and 3-1 series is massive. Losing a game in that fashion to make it 3-1 (in Bruins favor). I love watching how momentum shifts in a series.

Today might feature the first games with eliminations. Islanders lead the Caps 3-0, Golden Knights lead Chicago 3-1. I saw the last Isles game and they were all over Washington. Always forechecking, always on top of them. Not letting the Caps skate and move the puck gracefully. I'm happy for Trotz kinda showing "hey, you should have paid me" to the Caps management. And the Islanders to once again win a series post Tavares while the Maple Leafs keep going "wha happened? We got all these skilled players. Whadaya mean we have to play defense?"

-------
Oh no. Dale Hawerchuck passed away. I knew he was battling cancer. Just didn't think he was struggling that bad. Mainly known for his tenure in Winnipeg and Buffalo.

Blackhawks are out. Golden Knights move one. An expected result.

Today is a fun one with 4 of the 5 games being potential series clinchers. Only the Canucks/Blues series is stuck at 2-2. So a pivotal game 5 there to conclude today's schedule.

No games tonight. Those games are currently postponed as a show of solidarity and protest with BLM and the recent shooting of a black man in Wisconsin (I'm sure all of us know about that. This is a pretty North America centric message board.

The NHL isn't the only league to have postponed games, though it seems like they needed some pushing to acknowledge these racial/human issues from the Hockey Diversity Alliance. It's going to be baby steps with the NHL of course. The racial background being mostly white. If currently the league needs that extra push from the HDA then that's the way it's gonna have to be. This is somewhat newer territory for the league and it will get things wrong now and then, but hopefully with the HDA the NHL will improve and take strides on racial issues rather than just those baby steps.

-----

As for yesterday, that was some wild playoff hockey. The Avs nearly digging themselves a 0-3 hole but coming through in the end. Philly nearly collapsing (lucky OT goal, but hey). Felt bad for the Bruins rookie goaltender who had to step in. The defensive game was poor for Boston yesterday and it didn't really matter who was in net. But man, the Lightning even without Stamkos look so complete. They remind me of the 2001 Avalanche who were able to win it all even without Forsberg throughout the entire playoffs. This Lightning team is really complete. Though I wouldn't count Boston out. That performance yesterday made them look much worse than what they are.

Poor Tasty. The Bruins have been eliminated. The Lightning able to win out in double overtime while missing Kucherov (and still missing Stamkos). Don't see anyone stopping the Lightning in the East to be honest. I don't know what Kucherov's status is, but unless he is feeling some kind of concussion symptoms I imagine he will be available next series (he took a high stick. Left the game, came back and then left again).

Dallas Stars president says team lost season ticket holders over Black Lives Matter support

Meh. So what. Those ticket holders can suck a big one. I remember Dallas was one of the first teams to stand up for whatever the bathroom issue was some 3 years ago (I don't even remember what it was. I think a trans person going into the bathroom fitting of their gender? Something like that). I guess that didn't push people over the top, but a racial issue did. Whaaaah I can't have my white sport oasis anymoooooooore.

That's it, Vancouver are gonna lose too cause it would be too much to ask that I get at least one interesting team to follow in the last bunch of games  :boring

Okay it would have been too much for my old heart to watch any more games like these last two, maybe it's for the best idgaf about any of the teams left.

Whoever wins the Eastern Conference can take it all as far as I'm concerned.

Fine by me. Go Lightning.

Don't think I'm gonna catch today's game, but I'm pulling for the Isles.
