If you want to be a stickler it was on the Vita for many years before it got ported, but hey is a version on the PC now? Yes. So whatever. Zero Escape games have some cool tracks so it's nice they found themselves on the music challenge.

Damn I just loved the Sega CD era.

My dad (who thinks all video games are stupid) at the time even up and got me a receiver and gave me his old stereo speakers (with built in amplifiers) and mounted them up in my room to take full advantage of the Sega CD. I never felt so immersed in a game before.

Busy weekend my friends. But I'm back to finish off this fun list. Been very enjoyable seeing everyone's selections. There have been some OSTs I was not aware of (or just never listened to even though I knew of the game) and that's one thing I like about these kinds of challenges. I suppose I'll stretch it out and do the final one tomorrow.

Day 29 - Pre PS1 CD audio

Not much to say on this one. Simply like this soundtrack. Never played the PC Engine in any form. This is the PC Engine CD.

Day 30 - Game over music

I was contemplating using Donkey Kong Country 3. I have a vivid image of my head of the two monkeys being in some baby bed or something with blocks spelling "game over" and the whole is surprisingly unsettling. It was the only game over screen I could think of off the top of my head. At the same time I felt like something outside of the DKC franchise could use this final spot. That's when I discovered this. Very adorable game over screens and hey the tunes are pretty neat too. That concludes this music challenge. Bravo.

This is a neat compilation of Chrono Trigger covers (not sure if Chrono Cross is included as I just skimmed some tracks). Very diverse given that you have so many artists making arrangements of Chrono tunes.

Great track I rediscovered from the three disc Sekiro OST that finally arrived from Japan. Particularly how it picks up and transitions mid-way to the end. I'd never paid much attention to the music from this boss fight in-game.

The Adventures of Star Saver - Stage 1

Man I love the game boy soundchip and how dramatic this track is. Almost sounds like a last stand where you are going on a suicide mission. Not that I have a clue what the game is actually about, but hey that's the little story this music put in my head.

edit: I also love how this could be a bit in a The Strokes song. Such clear two guitar lines, bass line and the simple drumming holding the foundation down.

NEW CHALLENGE

Day 1 - console launch game

Kameo - Into the Light

I did get the 360 at launch (for Xmas) and this was one of the games I got with it. Sort of a stereotype of a first party launch game. Very impressive with its visuals to show off the console's graphical capabilities. You may remember the massive open field battles with a kajillion orcs seemingly taking part. Pretty impressive this was a day 1 game actually. Pretty unique too. Very Rareware for sure, but not too many games like this were being published during that generation. I only played through it once when I didn't have many games for the system, so I'm not all that high on the game, but it was a definite showcase for the X360.

edit: oh and the comment in the video is correct. This music played during the "continue screen"

Day 2 - co-op game

Was thinking what's a game I played a whole bunch with friends. My old roommate had his Wii in the living room and this was at a time where Gamestop was still loaded with used games from the generation before. So I told him "we should get Gauntlet Dark Legacy. It's just a fun beat em up and we can have 4 of us playing."
So we did and we got a lot of mileage out of it. That game was surprisingly realllllllly long. Fairly mindless affair, but a neat goofball vibe with its arcade style gameplay. Most of the ost is forgettable too and they made the composer make so many tracks for it. Probably should have cut down on that and made some more memorable tunes. Quality over quantity. That was not to be found.

But hey, this track was actually pretty darn good.

Day 4 - Game that has no sequel

Ico - Castle in the Mist

Like many, I did not get a chance to play this game until the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus PS3 remaster. I was eager to play it after seeing clips and reviews of the original many years back. I was not disappointed. A unique experience that I have replayed several times (enough to get that special overpowered sword thingy. A common easter egg which I think you could get on your third playthrough?). I really hope it becomes available on future platforms again even if it's just a port of the PS3 version. To me it's one of the most beautiful games in terms of experience. The music was damn good too. Unsurprisingly, since the game didn't sell well during its initial launch there was never any sequel. The team would move on to Shadow of the Colossus which is vaguely related. Maybe in the same world even or sharing some kind of mythology. It's rather open to interpretation, but it ain't no sequel. And that's fine. A game like Ico doesn't need a sequel.

Ah yes. I often forget about Dragon Quest. this track really is a stunner that will always bring a smile to my face. Wonderfully triumphant. Sugiyama has written so many incredible pieces that as a musician he is a legend. Just a shame he has some awful to reprehensible political and historical takes. That musical mind of his though has inspired many.

Not my cup of tea. Mostly dabbled in Red Alert 2 back in the day, but that's the only I took time with the genre. I know that Homeworld was a key game back in the late 90s or so. Apparently there was a remaster. So I took music from that.
