It’s really weird to see my posts in the mental health OT. Best thing for me was getting out around healthier people. Peer support can work, but you have to be around people motivated to get better. It’s also difficult to learn to be okay with yourself when constantly worrying about walking on eggshells around everyone.
Most of the people there need to see real counselors. No one in there is equipped to provide what they need.
Online support forums and groups are fine for what they are, a relative small part of a person's overall care plan. Simply talking with people online is not enough for most people, they also need medications and/or 1-on-1 or group therapy. Also engaging in activities that get you out of the house, whether alone (such as exercise) or in a group.
The mental health topic at REE is even less useful because there is absolutely no "real" help present, as in offering opinions on different medications, therapy methods, etc. It's a literal circlejerk of maladjusted loners saying "woe is me" over and over and over. If someone is actually suicidal, seeing that sort of thing is only going to reinforce their beliefs.
It's amazing to me that REEE shuts down any Joe Rogan thread in 5 posts because of his "problematic" influence but allow the mental health thread and most of off-topic to continue to send a good share of their userbase into a downward spiral.
