Another suicide thread and I feel like the advice I and others give are like small bandages over giant bleeding lacerations. This forum has been becoming disturbing. There’s a thread like this every week, there’s a mental health community thread that is 99% sentiment of giving up on life and hating everything, and when we give advice to these troubled people, most of the time they’re not seeing therapists, they’re not being adequately medicated by a psychiatrist, they’re not using county/local resources like a community mental health center or crisis call center. So what can change? I say this as a depressed person with PTSD that has suicidal ideation at least every 2 weeks, but I have the support and techniques to manage it, and a good therapist, thankfully. In contrast, this place has become a space for an aggregation of suicidal posters and we just scramble to get them to change their mind, often who don’t have much support or resources beyond the Internet strangers on this forum, and it’s really disheartening and stressful to witness, because it feels like the culture here is stuck the way it is and/or the people don’t have the resources they need to help a suicidal poster make a difference, and we aren’t really providing them either. I don’t know if the culture here exacerbates the suicide or if it’s the fact that already suicidal people want to congregate and share how they feel here because they have nothing left to turn to. Either way I don’t know the solution and it’s just sad and disturbing.

What and why questions are deeply related. If I write a postmortem on "Why did Biden lost" I would write:Joe Biden's campaign failed to gain the traction with Democratic voters because of a fundamentally weak campaign from the top down. An uninspiring candidate with weak campaigning skills led to an organization that was never able to tailor a message that resonated with voters. Biden's only clear message, that he was the candidate best suited to defeat Trump, positioned him as the candidate who should be able to easily defeat his Democratic opponents. But such a message can only be proven in results, and in debates and then votes, Biden was unable to position himself as a winner, routinely delivering middling debate performances and weaker results in early primaries. Without those dominate wins, the narrative that he was best positioned to defeat Trump became questionable. Without a charismatic campaigner to right the ship, Biden was forced to lean on his campaign apparatus, an apparatus that had never proven itself capable of producing a winning strategy. Fundraising began to struggle in late 2019, and a vicious cycle began in which losses lead to poor fundraising which leads to poor media coverage, which culminates with more weak fundraising, and the cycle continues. Meanwhile, Biden's advantage with minority voters began to crumble. As black and Latino voters became more important in the third and fourth primaries, other campaigns were able to knock down Biden's advantages with these voters. Poor performances in Iowa and New Hampshire for Biden softened his support, and combined with effective charismatic campaigning from Bernie Sanders, Biden was unable to clearly articulate why he was the best candidate to defeat Trump. With weakening support amongst minority voters, Biden's last electoral firewall crumbled.At its most fundamental, the Biden Campaign never seemed poised to run a winning campaign over a 18 month stretch. While Biden's polling was initially strong, he did not seem to make the inroads with Democratic activists that were needed to propel him through the primary season. There seemed to be a lack of energy around many of his events, and Biden was constantly dogged by misspeaks and meandering monologues. The situation was worrisome enough for many of Biden's campaign staff that in the summer of 2019 they were restricting access to the candidate and limiting his public events. This strategy essentially put him on a pitch count. A pitch count in baseball makes sense if you need to preserve an Ace late in the season, but with nearly a year and a half remaining in the campaign season (Summer 2019 - November 2020), restricting Biden's public appearances and media access was the equivalent of shutting a pitcher down in Spring Training.In the end, Joe Biden as a candidate lacks not only 4th gear, but perhaps even 3rd gear. At no point in the Fall of 2019 did we see Biden able to take his campaign to a different level. Instead, he lumbered along appearing to campaign the same way he had been campaigning in the summer. But as summer turns to fall, the energy increases, more voters begin to pay attention, and Biden never seemed to understand that a new level (3rd gear) was necessary to engage with these voters. Instead, the same old same old argument that he was the most electable was leaned on excessively. While other candidates began to eat into his lead, Joe seemingly was unaware of how to respond. By early 2020, the bottom seemingly fell out of his campaign in Iowa and Biden was force to write it off- a state that for much of 2019 he had dominated in the polls. His distant fourth place finish in Iowa would have been inconceivable four months earlier. The fact that the bottom was allowed to fallout so irreversibly for the "front runner" is indicative of a campaign that was utterly rudderless. The gains by Mayor Pete and by Sanders did not happen in secret, a true front runner should have understood the changing dynamics of the race and been able to counter that through messaging months before the actual caucus. This relates back to the campaign's lack of 3rd and 4th gear. A campaign with 3rd gear could have kept up with Sanders and Pete as they gained momentum. A campaign with the firepower to win would have then kicked into 4th gear in those final weeks to separate from the pack. Biden's campaign was permanently in 2nd gear, and was unable to respond to more dynamic campaigners with better strategies and stronger campaign infrastructure.That's what I would write.
