To add to that : "Plurals" will often claim to suffer from dissociative identity disorder (DID) which is apparently the new name for what was previously called as multiple personality disorder (MPD). Multiple personalities were often conflated in popular imagination with schizophrenia. On top of the fact that there's a fair bit of debate among mental health professional about dissociation and DID especially -as far as I understand it- and having distinct "multiple personalities" beyond two is very rare and exceptional even for most of the professional proponents of such a thing.

Some of the "plurals" / "systems" you can read on social media will use DID as an argument of scientific authority to validate their claims of being genuine. If so there's sometimes a bit of tap dancing where it is both used as a proof of severe trauma yet they will downplay the severity of the diagnostic & the illness stigma.

There are going to be quite a lot of people on here believing Biden commented about a 14 year olds breasts because there was a thread on here for 24 hours with over 25k views, yet the updated thread title and comments about the claim being bogus will just be shuffled out of peoples viewing eyes.

Yeah, is there a reason that the thread was immediately closed? If I didn't manually search up the thread myself, I would've never seen the update and I've actively been doing my best to keep up with all of the investigations going on. I think we all know that a LARGE % of the forum is going to have read the headline when it was posted and not have seen the update. Do we really want to have all these threads shitted up by people using fake information as proof that Biden is a pedophile?

We generally lock threads once they prove inaccurate, as deplatforming the incorrect information usually does more to reduce the spread of misinformation. We were discussing reopening the thread, but given that the tweets are now deleted, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Tens of thousands of people saw the accusation, but if you didn't come to this forum within like a 1 hour minute window you wouldn't know it was categorically debunked.

Man these posts are multiplying. At some point it's up to people to take responsibility to find this information out for themselves.

Given the seriousness of the current moment and how a locked thread means no one will see the update, I think it behooves everyone on the site to have either the thread re-opened with numerous threadmarks pointing to how the story was blatantly false or a topic about retracting false information that people saw but won't necessarily see the update to.

Remember Twain's words: "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."

Alternatively, ban those who came to conclusions and launched incendiary comments before even the most basic details of the story were hashed out. Clearly, they are not interested in conversation so much as performing their pre-formed opinions.

The "guilty until proven innocent" position that many take with stuff like this is pretty disgusting, and very harmful in cases where it turns out not to be true.
