I don’t think saying that China fucked up, and that is gross they are patting themselves in the back, is validating Trump “Kung Flu” rhetoric.
I mean... the WHO specifically and publicly praised Chinas handling of things, and was still saying there didn't seem a need for travel restrictions out of china while china itself had a full on lockdown going of its own citizens, as well as it being a shit ton easier to talk about how you handle a pandemic in retrospect when you know what it is, that it is serious, and how it is communicated rather than doctors on the ground effectively guesstimating what's up with something they've not seen before.
If Covid 19 had started in, fuck, let's say Florida, do you think it would have been contained better? Research data would have been given to all foreign governments equally and freely shared and not, oh I don't know, sold to and hoarded by the highest bidding pharmaceuticals? It's origin, risk, and cause would have been publicly acknowledged by the administration, instead of, oh I don't know, suggestions and implications it might be a biological attack by foreigners and terrorists to undermine what a great country the US is?
I don't think China are an exemplar in how they handled this, but there's more than a little skewing of events coming from the US media as to how they handled things, whether thats down to political motivations or just laypersons assumptions about how 'easily' a health crisis can be managed (despite all evidence to the contrary, both historical and ongoing), or just wanting someone to blame for something that is a textbook definition Act Of God.
