I checked in and saw lots of tags. I’m sorry for being awful before and I’ve thought deeply about this now in how I cover stuff. Apologies to everyone - really. Some bad things happened that I can’t go into prior to the things being discussed...it’s complicated. I simply didn’t know what to do.I only came to apologize for it, however. I can’t post more beyond this due to the serious mental health/physical issues that arose earlier this year. It’s not too bad now but I cannot risk it again - I’m not equipped to deal with it. Especially right now during new consoles. I’m not a strong person, I can admit that. :-(
It's a few things, the job was something I know in my bones I'd be really good at. It would have also been amazing for my resume, plus the added pay. I think I would feel a lot more fulfilled as what i do now is very rote, I want to be able to feel like I'm engaged and using my brain. It's also feeling valued for sure. it's hard because I know, I'm sure that this would have been the right move for the company, I do not think anyone would put into that position what I'd be able to, and that's not a knock on the people who got it because I do like them and want them to succeed and they will be fine, I just know they won't be as good.
i made a similar thread and well the discourse from the community was rough.
I met with some "centrist" friends (how they described themselves) from high school and we caught up and of course discussed politics. I came out swinging calling myself a Marxist and did what I could to try to pick apart their points in a way where they weren't totally alienated and tried to tap into their hatred of the rich and how they aren't getting anything but scraps.The one point I stumbled upon was when one of them said "the Nazis were left-wing, they were national socialists." I was genuinely surprised as I thought this was really mainly an alt-right talking point. Thinking on my feet, all I really had in response was "why do you think the communists and Nazis hated each other so much?" Should I just assume anyone who wields this talking point is a disingenuous CHUD or are there legit "centrists" who believe this? Like I just assumed it was obvious to point out that Nazis were right-wing but maybe it's not so obvious?

t's especially bad here. I get a reply on maybe 5% of my posts on Era. I frequent another 4-5 places and the reply and engagement ratio is much higher in those other forums. I feel like I'm getting to know people there and that we are having productive discussions that lead to interesting results and insight. I can't even remember last time that happened here. Though I'm sure some of the community threads might be good for that. So I've been thinking it's time to leave more than a couple of times during the last year or so. I don't even view this as a discussion forum anymore, it's just a news aggregator that I continue to use out of habitOverall I think this is a toxic place. There's so much arrogance, negativity, vapid virtue signaling, and uncharitable takes and grandstanding that spending time here is becoming more and more psychologically taxing. Worst part is I'm seeing those things bleed over into my own behavior. The more time I spend here the more unpleasant I become. More than anything else there's a massive confusion here about thinking subscribing to good ideas and ideals makes you a good person. It doesn't.When I'm posting here I'm constantly conscious about there being a subset of users who can't wait to pick apart every single word I write in the worst possible way it can be interpreted. For whatever reason that kind of extreme nitpicking and conflict seeking behavior gets a free pass here. Because of that almost every discussion ends up being a meta-discussion about the discussion itself rather than the topic. Communication is about collaboration, not argumentation but seems that's not part of the ethos here anymore. The experience here is more like playing MS Minesweeper with your words than having a discussion.And just to hedge this post, because that's another thing Era has conditioned me to do: I'm not upset about not being able to use certain words or saying nasty jokes. I think it's more than fair to criticize that kind of stuff. I'm not a both-sider, centrist or whatever. I agree with basically everything that resetera stands for(if such a thing exists) in terms of a progressive agenda. But that's separate from the behavior, mentality and fruitfulness of discussion here.
I agree. This community has some bad habits that makes me not want to engage. For example, I have ideas for new threads, but I never post them because I know people are always itching for a thread backfire. If you make a thread about something it can feel like you’re being bullied/interrogated.
Yeah, it's really bad here. I get more interaction and engagement with other people on reddit for fuck's sake. GAF was much better at being a proper forum with actual discussion between users.

I've met many women who say that seeing either someone as a non-voter or Republican on a dating app or just dating in general is an immediate no for them. As more women turn liberal or vote Democratic and the gender gap widens, it is going to be harder for Republican men to date or marry in many places in the country.
