I was on Facebook having a very friendly discussion with someone who believed that video games don't typically have politics in them. Basically that just because Metal Gear solid has politics in it, does not make it "Political". To him, political games are those that attempt to influence you, they don't necessarily have the artists political opinion in them. I countered in the multiple instances of political opinions in Metal Gear solid, to which he replied that he himself has opinions, but they are not political, and wouldn't necessarily be shown in a video game if he made one.

You have political beliefs whether you think you do or not.
Say you have 10 people in a village. 8 of them work. 1 of them is filthy rich. 1 is dirt poor and disabled.
What do you do?
Do you tell the person who lives in extreme excess to give to the 1 poor dude who can't work?
Do you all pitch in an equal amount to take care of the one dude that doesn't work?
Do try to create a system in which that one dude can make a profit of his own?
Do you tell him thats how the world works and he needs to find a way?
How you answer that question is just one facet of your political beliefs.

i had to OT for three hours/day during a 6-8 month period where we had a bug in a product and i had to manually oversee and nudge the update along every night (roughly between 22.00 and 01.00 every day).
it was pretty awful and soul crushing towards the end and even tho i would have been pissed off with the union if they hadn't accepted the OT exemption they issued for me, and it nearly doubled my salary those months, i was still happy when the bug was fixed. If i couldn't have done it from home i would have refused to do it after the first month.

It also misses the point. It’s has nothing to do with how many minorities are enrolled or how many whites are there on sports scholarships (funny that the one sports person in that comic is a white person lol) and we’ve seen what happens when rich white people buy their children’s way into Ivy League Universities (jail). It’s about the admissions process and weather or not it inherently gives advantages to minorities. You could have 1 minority student and still be guilty of discrimination and favoring minorities in the admissions process.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing to give advantages to minorities but it is illegal. I guess it’s a circumstance where I agree with the spirit of the law but I kind of disagree with the law within the context of racist America.

Isn't this comic peak whataboutism?  It seems to be a criticism of how people focus on the minority while not really making any argument on why the minority himself is more deserving than the guy that didn't get in.  If anything, it seems like all 5 on the left shouldn't have gotten in.

Affirmative Action is deliberately supposed to be unfair, because it is intended to bootstrap changes to existing systemic unfairness by compensating for things like demographic makeup to get to parity faster, at which point you're supposed to take 'the training wheels' off because systemic inequality has been overcome and you go back to meritorious selection.

There probably is a danger that when you have a 'perfect' blend of gender and ethnicity that has clearly overcome any systemic inequality that those who are benefiting from a 'new' status quo will in their turn not want to give it up and dismantle their own systemic inequalities because they think 'being the black son of a rich black donator' should count for more than 'being poor and white' or whatever, but I'm fairly sure that Yale isn't at the point where that's a serious concern.
