Nobody gave a fuck about Cosby or Saville in the late 90s. The general public had no idea they were mass rapists. Yet, somehow Ree knew all about them and was making jokes in the playground.

I was getting information from my mom (about the neighbors). Maybe when she talked to the neighbors they came to the conclusion that animal control just seized the bird without telling them? Or something? But yeah, so here's apparently what happened:

1. First Animal Control call happened
2. I text my neighbors asking if their bird is for sale. They say no.
3. I tell my ex-friend that they said no. She then reveals to me that she called AC the week prior.
4. In order to get me to calm down, she lies and said that all they did was discreetly check the windows of each house or something. In reality they had a thorough interview with my neighbors and etc. etc.
5. My ex-friend apologizes for calling Animal Control. I, like a dumbass, was naive and believed her because she sounded sincerely apologetic.
6. My friend and I have a joint bday party. She initially wasn't going to come, but she decided to "stop by." Apparently this is when she stole stole the bird. I thought that she just used "stopping by" as an excuse to LOOK at the birds (but actually even then, she said that her boyfriend was in the hospital so she had to leave and I believed her). Stupid ass me.

Also the friend who gave me this information strongly hinted that she would secretly stop by and check on the birds. I'm SURE she did. And also, even if she didn't come to the party, she apparently was planning to steal them on 4th of July.

Then I guess afterwards she just continued calling Animal Control or whatever in order to cover her ass.

The past couple of weeks this ex-friend/crazy thief tried convincing me via Instagram DM that she didn't have anything to do with the disappearance of the bird.

I'm going to have severe trouble brushing off any "hints" of potentially troubling behavior from now on.

Let me be clear: it’s far from perfect. The build I played on PC suffered a ton of micro-stuttering, particularly when bodies or barrels would explode.

I ran into a surprising amount of quest-breaking bugs, ranging from major bosses refusing to spawn, doors not opening or not being hackable despite quest markers demanding I run through them, and AI enemies freezing in place after a cutscene.

The map is frustratingly unhelpful. The game’s variety of loot is nothing spectacular, and you’ll frequently find yourself reselling duplicate bits of armour, weapons and augments — but the excess credits generated can’t really be put towards anything meaningful because of how The Ascent‘s items work.

Perhaps the most egregious flaw lies in The Ascent‘s inventory menus, which obfuscates useful information so frequently that it almost feels deliberate. And while The Ascent is a honest-to-God cyberpunk game, and players will inevitably draw some comparisons with Cyberpunk 2077, I’m not sure Neon Giant needed to borrow some of Cyberpunk 2077‘s fonts.

Those looking for something new in the cyberpunk genre might be disappointed, too. Neon Giant doesn’t lean into ’80s cyberpunk, the way CD Projekt Red did, but the setting never really ventures beyond the corporatocracy aesthetic.

Plus, this is a twin-stick shooter with a lot of cinematic views — so naturally, you’re going to run into moments of frustration with the camera. And most concerning of all: we have no idea how the game runs on any Xbox console, as only PC codes were provided by the game’s publisher prior to release (and Microsoft, despite the exclusivity, didn’t offer any codes of their own).

It’d be a mistake to think of The Ascent as Cyberpunk Diablo. While there’s obviously loot, Neon Giant’s adventure is more of a tactical twin-stick shooter. The general idea is to roll, dodge and crouch behind various bits of cover, picking off enemies in the open to thin numbers out.
