My dad is a farmer and whenever I visit him and we watch the evening news, it's in complete silence and I can't recall him offering an opinion on anything. Of course it was. As was anyone in any position of power in the government. We would have had even less success at nation-building if we had tried to go against their decades of cultural programming. As infantry on the ground our standing orders were to not even look in the direction of any women so as to not upset the local elders. If women spoke to us we were to look away and stay silent. They never did though... they knew the consequences of that. This was 07/08 timeframe in northern rural regions. Might've been different elsewhere at different times. That was my experience though.

Shipping is rooting for relationship that does not exist, for example when the Marvel fans started shipping the Falcon and Winter Soldier and the black dude was like: "NOPE stfu, we're just friends".
There are people who are against that because they don't want their 'fandom' drenched in crazy fan fiction. Same with the famous 'Reylo' ship from Star Wars.
