Wasn't there a trend, at one point, for some female opera singers to be preferably plump depending on the targeted voice range ? Maybe that's a popular misconception or was based in pseudo-science. My poor understanding or impression was that the purpose was more for projecting into a large hall, rather than changing the voice texture. Please someone enlighten me if they know what's what.

I’m not a huge fan of the direction this thread took. But on the flip side I do find the “accept my weight even if it’s like 500 pounds” to be annoying. I do think beauty standards should be wide and far more accepting. But there’s a point where you are beyond that, that I’m not going to feel guilty for not finding you attractive.

I don’t know, this is a hard subject. I think on a whole beauty standards have gotten a lot better, but there’s a limit and too not realize that is a bit stupid.

But I saw that twitter profile that Bork posted and while I found what she said a little questionable. I was also a little sad to find people making fun of that women.

eh, if she was committed to being happily obese a few years ago and then now she removed half her body weight, then that opens up some discussion. Musicians do sort of build up a brand centered around some issues they care about.

In this case, she was probably forced by circumstance to make appreciation for plus-sized body types part of her brand so I'm guessing she's just going to try to move to other topics. Still, I'm sure it pisses off some of her fans.

I'm not saying Adele is wrong for losing weight, or that she would've been right for staying at her previous weight. I think it's a really nuanced subject that gets made into a very binary thing and causes so many issues for women.
