The "who the hell cares about race" argument was always strange to me.
Of course if your race or ethnicity isn't the target of racism, bullying or oppression you don't care.
But that's really quite selfish.
This is a fresh hell of bizarro conflation. If you think the concept is irrelevant bullshit - we're all the same species, after all - and treat everyone the same, you're "selfish?" Can't win for losing, then.
There's no denying that racism still exists and as long as it does some people who are oppressed of their race will care about it.
You were probably never treated unequally because of your race and neither have I. But there are plenty of examples of people who are treated differently by others because of their race.
So yes, you are selfish if you say that race is no issue, because for you it is no issue but for others it is.
Now there is of course an argument to be made of how big of an issue racism still is and that will be different from city to city, region to region and country to country.
And racism also isn't only just the white man oppressing the minorities as people often like to frame it.
