Another next gen launch, another amazing launch line up.  ::)
So far we got... a Spiderman expansion and? Unless that's also cross gen?

Although it's clearly the best choice, given the state of the game.

They should just not bother with their launch this year. They don't even have a new Forza as a graphics showcase, something they managed to do for the Xbox One X.

Microsoft pulled in all these extra teams like The Coalition to help get HALO Infinite out the door and they can't salvage it. So now not only will HALO miss launch their other games will suffer delays as well.
They bought 8 Studios starting 6 years ago with Mojang and they can't even get a single next-gen launch game out the door.  :lol

If Nintendo launches BOTW 2 in November it's over. Both Sony and Microsoft will be forced to exit the market in shame. Better luck making mp3 players guys lol

Is audio still fundamentally broken on PC?  lol

They apparently fixed that six months later for Reach. Though Halo 3's shit hit-register is so hilariously bad that it's really killing the PC community again. :doge

Look, I would love a fucking awesome Halo game. If it takes them delaying it to 2021 to deliver that, good.
It'd probably take them delaying to 2025. :thinking
EDIT: I typed "2025" like some comically far away future date, but realized it's only in 5 years.  :stahp

I actually liked 5. But it was very "by the numbers."

The major problem for MS is that they only have 3 (well 4 but one of which is part of another) IP's: Halo, Gears, and Forza (Horizon). Their other stuff like Fusion Frenzy or Wacked! (lol at that last one) never get sequels or get an announcement of one and gets cancelled (Phantom Dust).

Spencer's been saying "we're heavily investing in 1st party" for like what, 6 years now?
They ended up buying a bunch of C-tier studios last year, that they'll no doubt run into the ground. It's quite amazing.

To be honest, I'm happy about this. It was clear that they didn't have a chance to make it a truly next-gen upgrade by launch but it was the first Halo in a long while that seems to nail the gameplay, art, and world-building. Hopefully it revives the MP community as Halo was one of the most competitive yet not-super-toxic MP communities I've ever seen. Those clans would ban teabaggers in the game that invented it.

I half suspect 5 years from now MS will be selling / killing off Xbox personally.

But they don't need current Xbox owners to upgrade.. so you have to think about people currently outside the ecosystem to see their plan for success.  Granted not having Halo Infinite to sell them sucks, but a lot of these people never played the latest Gears/Forza/whatever, and want a cheap way to check out 3rd party games on Gamepass too.

I don't see them killing off xbox unless the whole world converts to playing on an Azure server, which would be ridiculous. And this surprised the hell out of me but the only semi-exclusive game that I can see being a system seller is Roblox. That game/platform is HUGE with young gamers and for some reason Sony won't open up their cross-play policy to allow it on their system.

There's no other game I can think of that is that popular and provides enough content to be the primary reason somebody buys new hardware. But of course it has potato graphics so you don't need to run it on a next-gen console.

They ended up buying a bunch of C-tier studios last year, that they'll no doubt run into the ground. It's quite amazing.

Exactly. Spencer is dicking around. He dicked around with Phantom Dust fans (*cough cough*) by announcing a CGI trailer, never materialized because of executive meddling (probably for the best from what I've read) and then threw a bone to series fans by re-releasing it on X-box and PC (though on PC as a UWP/Windows 10 exclusive. *SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH*).

Spencer is better than whateverhisnameisthatworksatZynga/last guy, but he's been pretty poor in terms of actual "interest" in the X-box.

They need to get J. Allard, Seamus Blackley, etc. back and doing weird-shit like the early-00's X-box was doing.

Sony isn't swimming in IP either. Unsharted, God of Bore, Last of Puss, Ratchet? What else? Spoider-Man?

I can't decide which 1st party I hate more, honestly.

Thing is: Sony's IP's generally aren't coming out bi-yearly like X-box's was. Halo, Forza, and Gears were announced in a rotation during the 360 era. The next X-box's fuck-ups were what caused that to delay.

Uncharted is now buried (more than likely) since 4 was supposed to be the last one and Henning left/etc.

God of War got rebooted, so it's not the same as the past 6 titles [which Halo attempted and failed at].

Last of Us only has had 2 titles a generation apart.

Ratchet is one that was on a cycle like X-box (nearly) but then Insomniac started to branch out, and now they have to do Ratchet [possibly] in addition to Spider-man because Sunset Overdrive and Fuse both bombed.

Worst thing that happened Sony from a creativity stand point was uncharted getting hot imo, especially as someone who’d later come to realise I’d had enough of it halfway through 3.

Uncharted 4 is one of my most hated games of all time, I finished it out of pure spite :killme

well yeah that demo looked rough as fukk. you really can't talk about your powerful machine and show off your banner IP as a cross-plat pop-in fest w/o raytracing and expect a warm welcome.

oh well i don't really care about halo tbh gimme that obsidian shit.

edit: and yeah they're still paying for their identity crisis a few years ago.

Weird Sony was the best with titles like Tokyo Jungle. Now it's all sad dad walking sims :walkaway

Does really anyone care about Halo in 2020, after every non Bungie game was a major disappointment?

Love me some Forza and Forza Horizon though, especially since Polyphony can't release one full fledged GT in an entire console cycle and Driveclub, which I liked, bombed and was immediately buried as an IP.

Same, I missed all the wacky-ass and varied first-party Sony games from the PS1/2, and even early PS3 era... PaRappa, Jumping Flash, Wild Arms, those weird-ass Artdink games, Arc the Lad, Intelligent Cube, Tokyo Jungle, Wipeout, Mark of Kri, obscure games like Velldeselba Senki (an RPG/flight sim hybrid with steampunk airship designs).

Does Sony even have a Japan team anymore aside from Polyphony?

Fable looking like it hasn't even really begun development:

https://www.playground-games.com/careers/

Not abnormal to have more than one "lead", but they are looking for both a Chief Enginner and a Co-Chief Engineer for Fable, and the ads talk about getting into the project early on.

Clearly someone at MS thought the game was good enough to show and launch before the unveil.

Now suddenly 3-4 months before launch they delay their only big game.

My fucking kid is obsessed with Roblox.

I will say this though.... it sucks shit on Xbox. Most of the game run better on an iPad. And the interface is usually bad on a controller. My 8 year old is a true gamer that plays on PC.

There are like exactly 2-3 games that I don’t mind playing with her on it, because they are almost all terrible:
1- Arsenal (this basically an old school arena shooter, that is not good exactly but it’s not awful)
2- theme park tycoon. This is basicsllly roller coaster tycoon, but simpler mechanically. However, the ride building stuff is surprisingly robust. Like impressively so imo
3- some game where you just shoot at towers and blow them up. I forget what it’s called. Doomspire or something?

Most of the games are really low effort and amateurish

Microsoft saying: "You will get your remastered games free!" always seemed a bit strange to me.

Many third parties are just not going to do that. It has to be the exact same game, so if they only release the Ultimate Edition on Xbox Series X and PS5 and not the standard you won't 'auto-upgrade' from your original version.
Square Enix will likely do the same thing. Final Fantasy VII R Tifa Edition, sorry, this is a different game no update for you.  ;)

that game is a big steaming turd anyway who gives a fuck :trumps
Control was last year's GOTY, fool.

Control has all the ingredients of a great game but gave me next to no enjoyment. Remedy makes fun and serviceable games, but besides Max Payne, I've never enjoyed their storytelling.
I hated every Remedy game post Max Payne 2 (this includes Alan Wake, despite being a Lynch fanboy).
I went into Control with very low expectations, aside from it looking very good, but in the end i loved pretty much everything about it.
It could've used a bit more polish in some design aspects (difficulty curve is off, the bosses mostly suck, some visual elements are hard to read, and the checkpoint system is dog shit) but i loved the world, the visual design, and the gameplay was the most fun i've had with a 3rd person shooter since... well, Max Payne 2.

Although 90% of the quality in the writing department was merely for the world building, because the main plot itself was kind of whatever and ended abruptly, but you could say a similar thing for Witcher 3, for example.
