I'm not 100% sure but I recall reading that Kissinger had told the Secretary of Defense and a bunch of other people that if Nixon ordered a nuclear strike they should call him first to see if he meant it or if he was just hammered.

Lately my girlfriend has been working on some projects during the evening and I'll put on a movie to have on in the background while she works. I don't usually watch movies but I've used the opportunity to revisit the movies of our my youth/teenage years. Things like Taxi Driver, Drive, History of Violence, Basketcase (never said I had good taste), Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans, and I've noticed something, so many of these movies are CREEPY! Drive is probably the least creepy of any of those movies, and even that one focusses on a violent guy who gets hopelessly obsessed with a woman.

That's not to say that creepy automatically means bad, or that art should never focus on creepy Caucasians. It is coming up again and again in the movies I find to put on and I'd like to see some classic "cool movies" that don't do this. It is kind of weird that movies focusing on misogynistic white men are so well regarded though.

I'm sure there's lots of ways what I just posted is wrong, but I'm not interested in that right now. I just want some movies that don't focus on creeps.

On a side note one of the film makers I found doesn't have this issue too much is Quentin Tarantino. People who commit sexual violence in his movies usually very quickly get their comeuppance, instead of being morally ambiguous. This is all provided you DO NOT know he has a foot fetish, things get a bit of a different vibe when you take that into account.

Dude defended Gina Carano, complains about "cancel culture", deliberately misgendered a trans woman, he's just another ignorant white dude comic that punches down and thinks comedy is dying because people don't like it. So I was watching Amazon Prime on my Xbox and every time subtitles come up they are in German (audio is in English). Weird, I thought, but whatever.

Later I was watching the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight reveal on my PC (on Youtube?) and again, audio was in English but it had German subtitles.

Two different devices, German subtitles on both. All I can figure is that they both use my Microsoft account. Xbox shows “English” on every setting I can find.

I live in the middle of Ohio (USA) and I’m not using a VPN or anything.

I may have watched a Rammstein video and I occasionally enjoy a Hefeweizen but Ich spreche kein Deutsch. It’s not really a big problem just curious how both devices are confused.
