The difference was that as kids we didn't have the option to drop games. If a game is too hard or doesn't hold my interest these days, I drop it immediately. There are some games I've dropped after 5 minutes. Not cared either because I only paid a few dollars. I'll just buy something else or dip into my backlog. Back in the day it was "git gud" or you had nothing to play until your birthday rolled around or you had saved up a fortune to buy a new game.

edit: Just as an example of what they're talking about, in the first Borderlands the skill trees are so broken you can make Lilith completely invincible pretty early in the game and some of the multi-character area effects stack absurdly to where most boss fights before the DLC can be rendered meaningless.

And Marvel decided to officially announce this shocking ending a week before the issue releases with a ridiculously gross marketing campaign.

Ms. Marvel, the character who has her first film coming out this fall. The character of which (and actress who plays her) has been under attack by racist/sexist alt-right chuds for the past two years?

Cebulski needs to go immediately.

Bad story decisions happen all the time in comics. I think it's kind of the natural state of them being what amounts to decades-long neverending soap opera. Some decisions land, some don't. Some can be bad and later somewhat redeemed. (The Clone Saga, for example, has a lot of elements that people love and grew up with.)

This is embarrassing garbage. I am actually in awe that they did something so monumentally fucking stupid.

You think that's embarrassing garbage, think about the alternate world where they kill a beloved white cishet male character to promote Ms. Marvel in corporate synergy instead and all the chuds attack the character and actress as the "one who should have died."

They do not deserve anyone's sympathy right now.

There is nothing they can realistically do to make up for it, and they know it.

Sci-fi cons used to be a lot of fun. They were places where people of all colors and creeds could get together to talk and learn about science fiction and fantasy books, games, movies, and TV shows.

Then, starting a few years ago, things changed. Cons became increasingly dominated by a small clique of authoritarian jerks who made them into venues for pushing social justice dogma and, in the name of "inclusiveness," shut down any opinions that didn't align with progressive orthodoxy.

I really am annoyed by this kind of talk as aside from being annoyingly cynical it is incredibly eurocentric and white focused as it ignores how it rich white people are playing a HUGE role in destabilizing the environment and often POC countries/peoples are facing the brunt of it and ignores POC ways of sustainability and living with the environment that are practiced by Indigenous groups. Aside from environmentalism, you have Lord of the Flies (EDIT: being held up as an example of how humanity is inherently evil when taken outside of society in literary discussion) and how a bunch of white kids stranded on a deserted island turn on each other. Meanwhile, I recall hearing about how actual cases of kids from Pacific Island nations being shipwrecked for long periods of time resulted in them being completely on top of things with no deaths or anything.

I think they're actually just trying to include as many trigger phrases to ward people off, plus IIRC there's some pro-life sci-fi people that have been protested out of other conventions/etc. In terms and context of science fiction I would imagine those subjects are actually fine to talk about.

I can, as always, be wrong since I'm basing this on nothing but good faith theorizing and Carmack's promotion.
