I think I know what Chapelle was trying to say, but he's about 18 months to two years ahead of the 'fringes' of the conversation. People will not be able to properly digest what he was saying (or trying to say), so they'll boil it down to one of their existing reductive nuggets and carry on as before.

I wish he could've been more straightforward at times, I get that he has to bury everything in layers of humor and wordplay but I think it sometimes undermines his point

It doesn't matter what his message actually is, or what you think it is.
He spends the majority of the show pitting minorities against each other, in this case, black people vs trans (white) people. He also makes light references to black women vs white women in regards to women's march.
He literally says that all his previous jokes about trans people weren't actually jokes about being a transperson but jokes aimed at whites. Then he says his problem has always been with white people in general.
He even references the Dababy scandal, basically saying "Dababy killed a black guy and no one cared, but he trashes the LGBTQ community and suddenly he's canceled".
