This seems like a bad idea because it would probably be impossible for tech companies to keep up with these standards. Evnetually they'll have to leave the country or else risk being endlessly fined or sued, no?

At the same time, I fucking hate bullies, they plague the internet and cause so much damage and harm to others.

Great job with the ageism.

Your post was a shitty fucking post as well.

WTF ageism are you talking about? People can stop thinking critically at any age. Plenty of people his age that are able to discern reality from whatever world they've created in their mind.

LOL calling you out for a shitty post? Ok buddy.

I'm SO sure you'd have said that about say Obama at 47 even though he also tried to work with Repubs. Your transparency is obvious. Just stop.

You LITERALLY defended Republicans conspiracy theories which are based on ageism. Congrats.

Again, Obama also believed it and there were no accusations of dementia. Congrats on giving credence to a bullshit Republican conspiracy theory, one pushed by Trump and company. What a great group to be part of.

I remember pretty clearly a lot of them on ERA openly advocated for such online conduct laws because:
01.) They are reactionary
02.) Naive enough to think it will only apply to "bad" people they tar and feather as Nazis/GamerGators/Incels.

Now that a right-leaning government is instituting the kinds of online conduct laws they cheered for--and still do on many occasions--they are now having second thoughts, which would have branded you "not a good ally" and have sarcastic and condescending "freeze peach" remarks thrown your way not too long ago.

Nintendo fans have started to leave and are on different boards now. Lately its been hard to express any positivity towards Nintendo without someone who probably has no intent or interest in playing the games anyway just coming and bashing you. The trolling is quite subtle but tiring. It's better to just stick to boards that are Nintendo based, where topics about stuff like Mario Party thrive without dozens of comments putting the series down.

Look how far back we’ve gone in civil rights for Nintendo fans.

Yeah sounds like that might be the problem unfortunately, I believe you need NAT type A or B for most games. This might be one of those games. Last year with my previous IP I had the same issue, and used my phone's 4G as a hotspot which had NAT type B. It's not convenient but if you have an unlimited plan or a lot of GB per month, it will get the job done. I never had connection issues that way honestly, it will depend on how good your plan is.

There's other testing you can do with your router configuration as well to potentially solve the issue, but it's a bit tricky and won't guarantee you results.
Fucking nintendies.

This is why you shouldn't advocate for more government control of the internet or forcing online users to use their real identity while online. It fucking sucks having to deal with racist and sexist trolls constantly online, but even as a black man, I'd rather deal with that than have fascist right-wing governments control online discourse.

How the fuck is psychological harm defined?
If you have to ask, seems to me you havent experienced it. There are some sickos out there.

On another MMO videogame community [ed: MOBA Network owned?] I had a staff member threaten me with murder in a vividly detailed described way (I mean it, made them sound as if they had done that before). That itself was already enough, but it didnt have consequences for that persons position as a staff member. They didnt take him off the moderation team or anything, they wrote a half hearted apology and that was it. The entire team was fine with it.

A few month later (2-3) they announced that they'd quit the team for other reasons. Afterwards there was a huge shitstorm within the community. Everyone blamed me, because it was my fault that they had written a murder threat to a, at that time ~18 year old young woman. People would harrass me ingame, ignore me, call me slurs and/or names. It was a huge thing. I was not welcome anywhere. I had like 1-3 friends left that'd still hang out with me, but they were treated the same cuz of it.

As a woman you are already paranoid in dark streets as it is, you dont need some fuck head to make it even more of a nightmare.

I would have loved for this to have a direct impact on said person (real) life/career.
Quote from: Slayven
Should go after the companies that make money from it. The quickest way to stop it is to make it no longer profitable.
Quote from: Rory
Censorship is a concern, clearly. We have had many cases of cyber bullying that drove people into suicide. There must be possibilities for consequences in cases like these. I am not saying all this is perfect, but we must find a betrer way to handle it.

As the wording goes, wouldnt even instagram qualify for a shut down? Is has been proven it does cause psychological harm.
Quote from: Rory
Quote
Saying “well i dont see you coming up with an alternative!” might be the shittiest form of argument on the internet
Saying victims of cyber bullying shouldn't have means to defend seems more shitty to me.

Regulating online hate speech is a good thing.

Should be used to action people like Rowling and other TERFs with a proven connection between the hate she outputs and the affect it has on people. As others have said though, it'll be used on trans people and allies calling them out for their shit because they had to endure scrolling a little faster during their Wednesday afternoon wine session.

Meanwhile in PollingERA:
Yeah; it's called the results. Maybe you've heard of them? Tells you who voted for whom based upon race, age, religion, gender, etc. The results will tell you more than the polls could ever hope to do.
The results don't tell you any of that because we have secret ballots, the exit polls do.

I’m talking about an Of Montreal song, Bunny Ain’t No Kind Of Rider. The album (Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?) is legit in my top 20 of all time, maybe top 10.

The line is

Eva, I’m sorry,
but you will never have me
To me you’re just some f*ggy girl
and I need a lover with soul power
And you ain’t got no soul power

Kevin Barnes is the singer/songwriter, and they identify as bisexual, non-binary, and genderqueer.

Any thoughts? I adore this person and everything they have created. This album came out in 2007 and things have changed since then, but even in 2007 I certainly wasn’t using “gay” or “f*g” as an insult. But I have to admit I didn’t have a problem with this at the time because of who was singing it. Kevin’s sexuality and gender were intentionally vague at the time, but regularly alluded to as being fluid.

(I realize this whole thread could be about Kevin’s alter ego, Georgie Fruit, but Kevin has apologized for this, and I think everyone can agree it was offensive. And this isn’t a Georgie song anyway.)

Quote
Yea, it’s absolutely a great song and album. I kinda wondered if Kevin would revisit any other lyrics after removing “She-male” from Skeletal Lamping. They use “r*tard” in another song and that’s still a bit shocking.

On the other hand I don’t know that self-censoring your decade old lyrics is the way to go. I don’t love it, but that seems like a cop out that absolves you of responsibility long after your songs are out of the public consciousness.

Time to cancel!

Quote
Barnes performs as many different alter egos or personas, once including a glam rock alter ego, Georgie Fruit, first mentioned in "The Past Is a Grotesque Animal." They described Georgie Fruit as a black man in his forties who has undergone multiple sex changes, and this is likely the persona they retroactively described as "very problematic" in 2020.

Quote
I am the guy who made the thread about having to do a bunch of essays in a very short time to get from second year university into third, which I did, hooray.

Now my term started on the 23rd September and so far I have attended zero classes. This semester is 12 weeks, so its 5 weeks of classes so far. All my lectures and reading material are online now, so I am doing my best to keep up online, though not well tbh. My mental health isn’t great, my mum has been really sick and still is, and I’ve been finding it next to impossible to motivate myself to do university work. I have 3 modules this semester, and so far only one of the class tutors has been emailing me about my non attendance, which is my special subject.

Basically, i don’t know what the fuck to do, i feel exhausted even though I’ve done very very little work on it. I have no social contacts on campus at all, i haven’t made any friends or even people i know. I have Asperger’s which makes social stuff difficult anyway, and honestly lockdown made it much much worse. It’s a long commute as well, more than an hour, and i find it difficult to even think about. I fucking dread the idea of going anywhere near the campus.

So anyway, I could use some advice on what to do. I know in theory i should take a break from uni for now, but i don’t want to. For financial reasons, and the fact I’m 28 years old, nearly 29, and I feel like a big stupid idiot who took so long to get to university and can’t handle 3 classes a week like a fucking idiot. I’m considering asking to do online classes, but i suppose i want to know, am I too late to pull it back for my work? I didn’t feel like i did, but now i can’t decide, i just feel shit about it.

I'm so tired of starting fights with a professor.

They're nearly 30 approaching 50!

I know I know "horseshoe theory hurr hurr" but it shouldn't be surprising that people on the extreme ends of the social bell curve would exhibit the same types of behavior because at those ends of the spectrum behavior is driven by more intrinsic human psychology.

For both the extreme left and extreme right, principles are abandoned and the only thing remaining are grievances.

They don't want that either as shown by other threads and a few posts (like Slayven's) in that thread.

The vast majority of prominent members seem to want a state monopoly bulletin board that arrests people who posts things they don't like. (Only the arrests aren't done by cops, but like, social workers or OSHA agents or something.) They don't like this because they know the Tories won't run it the way they want. If it was Labour Democrats they'd already be complaining about the traitors at the ACLU/EFF/etc. filing instantaneous court challenges.

 - instead of doing their learning diary wrote a critical piece on how shit their tutor was and how they had a personal grudge against them, then submitted it to them  :lol
 - bragged about how easy they found one of their essays on their whatsapp group, then when someone else in the group asked if they could look at their essay for help told them to fuck off because they'd steal their work, to the point they got shunned by the entire group and their tutor had to send an email suggesting they be "more kind" in their interactions with fellow students in future (teacher talk for 'stop being such a cunt')  :lol
 - pissed about online for most of their semester last term then rush-crammed a half assed essay over a weekend at the very end of term  :lol

and now it turns out they're not some dipshit barely out of their teens, they're a fucking grown ass man of nearly 30 :dead

On the plus side we've finally found someone Slayven can feel superior too

Not sure about that of chief

Also their whole "Noooooooo I don't want the democratically elected government and associated legal checks and balances in charge of this, I want the unaccountable private company!"

Hypocrisy is not a vice we practice, that is for the enemy Benji

As far as I know Slayven has never crammed or insulted any of his tutors. Pretty sure one of them even praised him for reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar all by himself

Also dumbass OP doesn't know how to make simple syrup.

This is not really the case for sugar as sugar hates being a non-solid and you have to essentially very carefully trick it into not being a solid and even then, it will be somewhat of a solid.

Can someone tell this simpleton this accurate sentiment towards charity also applies to sympathy, empathy, and… well… moderation?

Incelchief jealous of a comic book character having friends.

Especially when you realize said character is one of the worst in the X-Men "universe"  Like literally Jubilee (90s rave reject) and Dazzler (70s disco reject) are cooler.
