It's amazing you think I'm that stupid that I needed a breakdown. I understand how times change; I don't understand what you people don't understand about how the occurrence of cultural practices doesn't correlate inversely proportional with time, especially if we presume that inequalities among different ethnic groups still exist and still continue to be unaddressed. Like, why are you assuming Black people have equal access to the same quality of food that whites do?
You're right. I'm annoyingly optimistic, but I think Era is a community that wants to do better with things like this. As much as it feels like banging your head against a brick wall, I know that I'll be slower to use snark and make assumptions about where someone is coming from after this thread. I legit think it would be worth adding a threadmark or mod post (to this thread, and wherever something like this happens), because this isn't just another "I just found out some people clean their teeth with toothpaste; my dad always said to use syrup and he never had a cavity in his life" Era thread.

QuoteIsn't the very title of the thread the first shot here?I'd also like to point out that it's several mods and admins who are deliberately making this thread hostile.

Does Nepenthe think grocery stores are still segregated or some shit? She may be the most stubborn idiot on the entire forum.
You thought that "I don't understand difference" post was me being literal, and not being sarcastic to another poster? Christ on a stick. Also, you don't know my practices. I have never had an instance of food poisoning from my own cooking, and everyone who's eaten my food says it's pretty darn good.
Coming from my Black ass, I don't think Era collectively wants to do better, and if they do, they're really quiet about it. Absolutely nothing is going to be learned from this thread, and Era will continue being a liberal hellhole. But I always appreciate it when folks like yourself make a call to action to just take a moment.QuoteAlright, you literally just posted you didn't understand something and I tried to help in a respectful way. They don't trust us to pour dirty water down a damned sink.....
Nor to clean up after ourselves. If I'm not actively tending to an ingredient, guess what I'm doing in the kitchen.
Quotemy chicken is going into that oven drier than death valleyBruh. xDDD

Best part is Slayven probably peaced out like 2 hours ago, and is probably staring cross-eyed at some comic books with his hands down his pants while Nepenthe is having another breakdown.

Also, your post history didn't really give me the impression you were being sarcastic. Not a lot of acknowledgement that you understood that washing your meat was not a good idea in this day and age, but a lot of justifications for the practice.Quote from: NepentheNo one in this thread is getting banned, or even warned, for anything they post in here. Calm down, Karen.Shit like this feels very unnecessary to me. How is this adding to the discourse? Is this another case of me missing the sarcasm, or are you just being really hostile?

My posts in here are to get people to stop acting like colonizers.

Again I am no expert, but if there is slime on the surface of a cut of meat weeks(!) after I bought it, I would just assume it has gone bad.
QuoteQuote from: NepentheMy posts in here are to get people to stop acting like colonizers.Good lord.Your entire shtick this thread has been directly looking at folks explaining that A.) historical differences in the acquisition of food, and that food's quality, between different ethnicities helped in part to give rise to different food prep practices, that B.) inequalities still exist with regards to access to food safety information and the availability of quality of food between different ethnicities, C.) that scientifically, people do not change deeply-ingrained cultural practices and beliefs immediately based upon merely being presented with conflicting information, especially if the information isn't really addressing the root causes of a cultural practice, and going"Fuck all of that. If you don't act like I do you're just anti-science."BIG colonizer energy, and with your whole chest too.

I'll repeat; Good lord.
Hmm, I'll admit that I was washing chicken for years due to parental upbringing before I learned about the higher chance of contaminants spreading around your cooking area when you do that.
Washing meat is not about washing off harmful bacteria. It's about washing off less-harmful bacteria that can negatively impact flavor.Like sometimes you get really fresh chicken and it smells like nothing. Sometimes you get chicken that's not spoiled, but is a bit slimy and has a strong poultry smell to it. Washing removes unpleasant odors which result from bacteria that is not necessarily harmful.I don't necessarily do it with poultry, but fish is a no brainer. I keep frozen fish basa in the freezer all the time, and it has a bit of a fishy smell/taste to it since it's not fresh out of the water. So I rinse it to get rid of the taste and I have a much cleaner tasting filet as a result. And I said this before, but there are some cuts you absolutely do need to wash. Any kind of coarse chopped meat/bone combination needs to be washed carefully to remove blood and bone shards.
lol, getting rid of the smell isn't getting rid of the reason for the smell!
Quote from: benjipwns on March 03, 2022, 05:49:23 PMlol, getting rid of the smell isn't getting rid of the reason for the smell! That's why I don't even cook it, I just pour an entire can of adobo on there.
It's pretty simple. If your folks have historically been given the filthiest scraps from the people who shackled them as slaves, and from abolition on have been subject to both deliberate mishandling of meat from assholes, as well as general access to lower quality meats in the local area due to inequalities related to things like food distribution and Jim Crow laws, and we get on further down the line regarding the issues with food desserts and things, guess what you might start doing to your meat to try and cut down on illness.
I’m still laughing at “meat store”.
general access to lower quality meat
Like tongue? Mexicans love that shit.
Exactly. I run a Persian-Mexican food stall as a side business
This thread could have finished after 6 posts and it would have been fine. An incredulous query with non-snarky replies explaining why and some links to evidence.Instead it carried on into this shitshow. Still, a good point to be made on cultural reasons. Unfortunately, it was a point made by Nepenthe.
We used to have big fights about whether or not you can feed it to your pets.I always sided on the "a dog can tell if it's rotten" side but it's just me trying to bullshit over the fact that I think it's a great injustice if dogs (and can't) can't have a little human food, as a treat.

Drexel researcher Jennifer Quinlan conducted the study, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to find out whether you should wash raw chicken before cooking it for dinner. The results were surprising.Quinlan found that it's actually a bad idea to wash chicken before cooking it. The reason? Washing the poultry in water spreads germs throughout the kitchen, onto countertops, other food, towels, and you. The water splashes the chicken germs everywhere, which can lead to illnesses.Drexel researchers found it's best to take the chicken straight from package to pan, since the heat required for cooking will kill all present bacteria. This research changed the way a lot of people have undertaken an everyday task for years. Roughly 90 percent of people say they wash their chicken before cooking it, as recipes have historically called for chicken washing. In addition, it's thought the practice started because people wanted to rinse the slime off of just-opened chicken pieces. In a public service campaign to end chicken washing for good, Quinlan explains why it doesn't pay. "It does not get rid of the bacteria, it doesn't kill the bacteria," Quinlan says. "However, there is a chance that it will spray that bacteria."

I may be too optimistic but I feel like it's almost over.If I understand properly, they (The invaders) are almost out of ammunitions to hold the territories they stole. But I also know very little about war so I could be very wrong.
Where is that ridiculous palace of his located? Also, doesn't ha have a daughter? Was she on the sanction list?
QuoteThe palace of Putin is here (Google Maps)Not far away from Ukraine. No clue about daughters.Did a quick Google and he apparently has at least two kids who he doesn't acknowledge. What a guy.

It's the same as when they were defending black antivaxxers, though this might be even more absurd. Everyone buys the same fucking shit in the super market.
