It's been staring us in the face the entire time. Cancel culture does not exist.
A disdain for civil liberties and due process, especially when it gets in the way or slows the punishing of bad guys. Reliance on a network of informants with their own self interests. Using minor infractions to try and uncover greater crimes. Immunity for accusers. Closing ranks and circling the wagons for defenses of the in-group. Double standards based on if someone is in the in-group or not. Painting criticism of the in-group as a threat to security. Lying if that's what it takes to punish the bad guys. Manufacturing evidence if necessary. Trying to force confessions. Maximum sentences at all times. Considering many things to be violence, especially if that allows for the use of actual violence in response. A belief that criminal intent and bad faith is inherent to certain demographic groups. A belief that a past history is evidence of future crimes. A desire to publicize past crimes and accusations to influence current situations. A refusal to believe innocence once someone is accused. The notion that their actions are just barely holding back the hordes of evil. Us against them mentality. A fetish for never ceasing surveillance because of the fear that unwatched people are getting away with something. The idea that people act in bad faith specifically to undermine security. A demand for praise and awards for everyday behavior. A sense of injustice if anyone not in the in-group goes unpunished. Warnings of apocalyptic circumstances if their power is ever curtailed in the slightest way.
This is cop culture.
