My family is made up of huge Potter fans. We normally see the movies at midnight. Have met some of the actors at conventions. All that jazz. So I was really glad that my wife, and even my 11 year old, took no issue with us skipping this newest movie due to how big of a piece of shit Rowling is. I wish I had a sense how many others out there might avoid it because of her too. Just hoping it does poorly. I think Will's frustration was completely justified, this incel has been stalking his wife for over two decades, he's probably gone to the police and they say "nothing we can do, he's a comedian protected by whiteness and she's a Black woman" and so when Rock announced before the entire world that he was threatening Jada's life I think that Will, after laughing, realized he had to do something and take justice into his own hands because we don't live in a society where Black people have legal recourse against racism, capitalism and colonialism. So tonight my sister's friend Kate and I wanted to throw my sister a small surprise birthday, my sisters boyfriend Josh also came, we went downtown and dropped my sister and Kate at a bar and went to park.

For three hours my Kate wasn't answering her phone (my sister forgot her phone at home) and Josh and I ended up calling the cops because we were afraid something happened.

Where are all the people gleefully condoning what Will Smith did? Who are the people here praising the violence? Who is this response for?

At this point it feels insidious, because people are barging in here with a counter to an argument nobody is making. And after a while it starts to feel more like your intent is to shut up Black people having a nuanced discussion about the events of last week, because the only thing that matters is that we all dogpile Will "get jiggy with it" Smith for being some sort of known barbarian with no gray area whatsoever.

Why is it so important to you that nobody center Jada in this?
Why is it so important to you that nobody talk about how Chris Rock's joke crossed the line?
Why is it so important to you that people don't talk about the very important history and current lived experience Black women deal with every day in regards to their hair?
Why is it so important to you that Black people not demonstrate our ability to walk and chew gum at the same time? That we can hold multiple thoughts, multiple truths in our heads. That we can both believe that Will Smith was wrong for what he did, AND that Chris Rock's off-script joke was cruel?

Because you're not making your basic, "violence isn't the answer guys!" arguments in response to people praising the violence. You're making this point to people doing the above.

The most infuriating thing about Rowling is her flagrantly selective view on reality. She is the pure distilled embodiment of confirmation bias and applies it to absolutely every manner of engagement she takes. She pulls out complete hacks who make the arguments she wants to push, completely ignores the wave of people who can clearly discredit their work. She darts in on any negative commentary in her mentions to paint trans folks as bullies and again pays zero mind at all to the nonstop waves of harassers she throws at us calling for genocide. She'll even pull her examples within the replies of well-thought critique, or replies to anti-trans harassers, just ignoring that chain to only pull up the takes she wants to magnify.

Rowling just absolutely will not engage in any sincere manner in this discourse that she quite clearly wants to embed her life into and it's fucked up.
